Deeply grateful to the Albanese government for providing funding to subsidise our preventative programs for young men 🙏
@AmandaRishworth announced the Healthy MaTE funding at Brunswick Secondary College today, of which The Man Cave is a recipient @PeterKhalilMP@hunterjohnson91
I'm in the @smh today making the point that talking about violence, and telling boys and men to change, is not a prevention strategy. Government needs to take action at the level of policy and regulation. https://t.co/6S3AuKVpmx
@Ysolda_Nichols Hey, I wasn’t saying that. The confusion is about boys navigating changing societal & cultural expectations and conditioning for them - eg be strong, don’t cry etc vs be more emotional, show your vulnerabilities etc. I agree there is nothing confusing about what you’ve stated.
If governments are genuinely wondering what to do next - and what will have impact - they should focus on and fund the upscaling of this work with children. It’s long overdue. Recovery is prevention. We owe these kids the support they need to thrive & meet their full potential.
In The Age today: Christine Nixon & I argue all too often perpetrators are cast in the shadows in responses to family violence. Improving victim-survivor safety is the priority. To achieve this we must cast a spotlight on the perpetrator, particularly those who commit multiple offense against the same victim, & those serial offenders who abuse different women.

A lack of genuine investment in prevention & early intervention will guarantee that in the years to come, we will continue to count women's deaths from male violence on a weekly basis.
We must intervene early to reach young men & boys at scale in all the spaces that they learn, live, play & work in. We need an urgent increase in commitment to these efforts - if not now, when?

As part of this profile of @hunterjohnson91 I went to witness @themancave_aus day-long workshop with teenage boys. It was so moving and one of the few times in the last year that I felt some hope for the future https://t.co/LKeOFP2VdI
"We can see the impact of not funding preventative programs in the tragic lives that have been lost."
Our CEO @hunterjohnson91 joined @UNWomenAust activist @tarang_chawla and @iequalchange CEO Jeremy Meltzer to talk about investment in positive programs for teenage boys.
