What better time to discuss anxiety, when we are stuck at home and worried about covid-19. I know I could use some tips! An online group is ideal for this population as it can help ease some of the discomfort of being surrounded by a group in unfamiliar setting. #SWKD600IUPUI
#SWKD600IUPUI I've been teaching people how to manage anxiety for a long time, but I've been surprised at how challenging it's been to create a module to teach it. I've always taught experientially, breaking down the steps has illustrated how much I take for granted.
YES! Seeing success stories really helps someone just starting the process to believe that they can do it! Self-efficacy is a huge part of the process.
I'm apart of the depression psychoeducation group and I love the fact that there's a whole thread for success stories. Doesn't matter if they're big or small and helps people new to the group see the light at the end of the tunnel. #SWKD600IUPUI
#SWKD600IUPUI I found this experience of exploring the Panic Center to be really interesting. I was surprised by the depth of content in members posts, and found a lot of great information on dealing with anxiety.
#D600IUSSW My experiences the past few weeks with group work have very interesting. We dug very deep into our social issue in research, and it required a lot of creative thinking to create a plan to address it.
@Candace81987954 I think that's really insightful. With this group I wonder if psychoeducation of Maslow's hierarchy of needs would be helpful in recognizing each other's struggles. #SWKD600IUPUI
I often struggle with this in group settings, but I've learned that instead of offering advice, it's often really beneficial to encourage the rest of the group to reflect on members' comments and brainstorm possible solutions together.
Leading little miss sunshine group therapy was nerve wrecking prior to starting. I wanted to say the right things. but I still catch myself doing too much advice giving, rather than facilitating. Oops #SWKD600IUPUI
#SWKD600IUPUI I found this experience acting as a social worker to the characters of LMS to be really difficult. I've worked in a TF-CBT model for almost 3 years now and I probably would have recommended individual sessions for this family instead of group.
