Susan Sontag wrote a thing where she said the woman is always being observed; even at the funeral of her own kin she will be observed and has to put grieving second to how she might be perceived, thus not really grieving but performing. For the woman is always observed, perceived, consumed but never allowed to be themselves or accepted. Even in the purest of times (birth and death) :

You have a very short window to grieve anything because your pain no matter how intense and cruel isn’t unique , so at some point the world will move on without you because you are not the first and won’t be the last
me knowing that time is arbitrary but people collectively choosing to believe in a fresh start is a beautiful reflection of the optimism of the human spirit
