@thought_less_@conorsen For oil?
There is still a plausible scenario where oil prices climb and that causes a recession- the market seems to be shrugging it off as a risk.
@Rochell70016850@Henrytheefirst They canโt team up and handle it together?
Most families with kids out of the house cook much less because it is just the 2 of them.
They may be okay, but the risk of financial strain is real if a recession hits and she has no desire to pitch in.
@SurplusCornbre1@oh_HOLMES I have been on rides from the airport in the last year where there were some rowdy homeless mixed with professionals coming from the airport.
@NY_Clary@Tracey_YYC@Henrytheefirst $680k is not much for retirement. If they get to $1M they will probably be okay. He is relying on the markets doing well in the next 8 years.
If we get a recession and the market tanks, he will be forced to keep working past 65 - while she refuses to work.
@wfcollins@Henrytheefirst 2% is extremely conservative, but good for you!
I think the issue for many families is they can cut back but they also have big expenses that pop up every couple of years like a new car, new roof, etc.
@HoovrMomma@Henrytheefirst I donโt know what her background or skills are so I canโt say, but that is probably the biggest challenge.
My guess is her hang up is starting as an entry level employee somewhere.
Something like substitute teaching is a potential route.
@west_ultra_maga@Tracey_YYC@Henrytheefirst That $1M can easily go to $500k like what happened during the Great Recession. What happens if they are forced to live on $60k/yr with SS?
@OrmrSgail@dssavage1111@Henrytheefirst@WonderofJesus Nothing wrong with volunteering. You just need to be practical.
If they are destitute in their 70s or 80s because she didnโt want to work in her 50s, that is unwise.
@PuckLuck1@dssavage1111@Henrytheefirst Yes she doesnโt need to work crazy hours. Find something that is 20 hrs a week.
If he was projected to retire with $2M then this is a totally different conversation.
@MrKnostman@dssavage1111@Henrytheefirst That is wild that you would be happy to work 80 hour weeks so you can retire while your wife watches TV, has lunch with the gals and plays pickleball all day.
She came across as entitled and no concern for her husband. The assumption that they will get to $1M is optimistic
