Backbiting is allowed in certain situations:

"[ a ] Complaining against a tyrant before a person who can relieve him from the tyranny and injustice.

[ b ] Complaining about the wife and children to the father and husband who can put them right.

[ c ] Giving a full account of the case in order to obtain a fatwa (ruling of Shari’ ah)

[ d ] Warning the Muslims of the mischief of a mischief-monger so that they may ward off the evil.

[ e ] When someone consults another person in any matter, it is obligatory for him to apprise him of all aspects, including weaknesses, so that he is not deceived because of ignorance.

[ f ] If a person commits sins openly and publishes his ungodly behaviour himself, it is not prohibited to make mention of his bad deeds. However, it is abominable and reprehensible to indulge in it on account of wastage of time [ Bayan-ul-Qur'an with reference to Ruh-ul-Ma’ ani]

44 Muslims have been killed in India since the start of 2026!

At least 44 Muslims were killed in India during the first seven months of 2026, including 19 deaths attributed to state actors and 25 to Hindutva extremist non-state assailants, according to figures cited by the South Asia Justice Campaign (SAJC)’s India Persecution Tracker.

2026 is the deadliest year for such killings since the organisation began tracking them in 2022. Between May and July, “25 Muslims were killed, including 15 by police and security personnel and at least 10 by Hindu extremist actors in religiously motivated attacks across five Indian states,” the report said.

We were discussing at a close family gathering who should take our beloved grandmother back to her house. Eventually, it was decided that it would be her grandsons, including me.

As her grandchildren were walking her to the car, one was holding her bags, another was holding her by the arm, while the third was opening the door for her—all of them trying their best to serve her—I realised that one of the most successful lies that have been sold to us, especially the sisters, is that being a single woman with a career brings happiness and prosperity.

Unfortunately, once such a person has made enough money and travelled to the places they have desired, whilst taking counterfeit pictures of smiles, they end up home alone with their cat or dog.

On the contrary, a simple woman, who may not be that “educated”, but has loyally served as a mother, not only gets the reward in the hereafter, but also sees her fruits in this world, Inshā’Allāh. Her children and grandchildren, who were given life through her, are there for her, respect her and want the best for her. Not because she has a PhD or is a manager, but because she is the most important person in the family. She is the mother; she is the backbone; she is the one under whose feet Paradise is.

May Allah grant us all pious children and grandchildren, and grant us the ability to look after and respect our family’s elders. Amin.
