Japan's “Ita-bag” (痛バッグ) literally means “painful bag” and it’s exactly what it sounds like - bags that are so covered in anime character merch that it’s painful to look at.
But like, on purpose.

Clear plastic bags or bags with clear panels where fans display dozens of the same character’s badges, keychains, pins, acrylic stands…
We’re talking 50-100+ items of one character covering the entire bag.

People spend hundreds or thousands of dollars collecting enough merch to fill their ita-bag.
They coordinate colors. They arrange items by theme. Some people have multiple ita-bags for different characters.
It’s not hoarding if it’s organized, right?

Someone will be on the train in business casual carrying a bag absolutely covered in anime boys and nobody bats an eye.
The culture:
It’s a flex. “Look how much I love this character.”
