Large-scale experiments test ideas about landslide formation, behavior & hazards at the #USGS debris-flow flume near Blue River, OR. The flume is 310 ft long, 6.6 ft wide, perched on a 31 degree slope. More experiments at https://t.co/uYt7tmKp4d. #VolcanoAwarenessMonth
There has been a glacial lake outburst flood, Elliot Creek just east of the head of Bute Inlet. Thanks to Interfor ground crews for forwarding the images to Pierre Friele. Details are sparse but appears part of glacier failed and hit lake. Location and satellite to follow. 1/3
Here are the numbers on the new Canadian climate plan. The 'starting point' is a modelled estimate of 2030 emissions without any actions (815 Mt) NOT the present-day emissions (~730 Mt).

Need a lab science credit @langaracollege? This spring, learn about volcanoes, glaciers, and rivers virtually in GEOG1190: Geomorphology using @googleearth.
Just realised that emails behave like sediments. Oldest, and hardest to remove are at the bottom. Fresh ones, more susceptible to erosion at the top. Sedimentation rate can fluctuate, as can erosion. I am in a phase of persistent aggradation.
We believe that now, more than ever, the world needs people who care about science. People who spot a problem and wonder, “How can I fix it?”

Can I get a signal boost? Seeking middle school science teachers who teach black communities - I'd like to stock your classrooms with free copies of my physics graphic novel (the main protagonist is black). I have enough for at least twelve classrooms.
Great example of water science communication in action! The Okanagan Basin Water Board (@OkWaterWise) has launched a new website to increase community understanding of #flood hazards in the Okanagan watershed. #SciComm https://t.co/tyNjhcumAI
To me, that's the #1 similarity between battling covid-19 and climate change. If we wait until we detect cases (or impacts) to take action, it becomes too late to avoid dangerous consequences (4/4)
good idea or great idea: a zoom-based, kid-friendly passover seder activity that is centred around great plagues in history. we name the plague, you name the vectors and pathogen (e.g., bubonic plague, rats/fleas/bacteria)
