IDFC FIRST Bank Hit by ₹590 Crore Fraud

IDFC FIRST Bank has reported a big fraud of about ₹590 crore at its Chandigarh branch. It happened with accounts linked to the Haryana government. The issue came up when one department asked to close their account and move money, but the balances didn’t match. Checks on other government accounts showed the same problem. The bank thinks it’s only in these specific accounts and not others.
What happened: Some bank employees and others did unauthorized and fake activities. The bank has suspended four staff, filed a police case, and started a full check with outside experts.
The fraud amount is more than their last quarter’s PAT of ₹503 crore.
