“...@KamalaHarris will make history as she raises her right hand to become the 1st woman to take the VP oath of office. Her African American & #AAPI roots are empowering groups whose voices (especially in political circles) are often overlooked.” 👏🏾 https://t.co/eqyLXvygwv
As we celebrate #MLK’s life & legacy, it’s an important reminder on the vital work led by @IllinoisLBC.
Last year, @IADOChicago made a call-to-action for all elected officials to support the Black Caucus agenda: https://t.co/jggxJtPUjQ. We make this same call today ✊🏾
Please, if you’re an elected state official in IL, please don’t vote NO on the bills coming out of the Black Caucus and turn around and post an MLK quote on Monday. Save your performance art, it’s not needed.
I am choosing to honor Dr. King by actively standing against racism, speaking out without regret, stood up for the underdogs, and MADE himself both a beacon of hope and a target of hate.
Today let’s honor the man and the mission- not the myth and the G-rated narrative.
Dr.King was not a friend to the oppressor, he was not an ally to the segregationists - they hated him. The love you are seeing online for this man today, while being while deserved, is highly performative.
Dr.King was arrested, brutalized, and was harassed in his life. The Government of the United States put a target on his back. Dr.King was more than a great orator that spoke of unity, he was a rebel, he was an activist. He didn’t always have a permit.
Today is MLK Day. You will see lots of posts and quotes and pictures of him on Social Media today. You will not be seeing that in this post. I am choosing to post a picture of Dr.King in jail for a reason. Actions have results , sometimes good sometimes bad.
Please don’t act like everyone loved my father. He was assassinated. A 1967 poll reflected that he was one of the most hated men in America. Most hated. Many who quote him now and evoke him to deter justice today would likely hate, and may already hate, the authentic King. #MLK
Congratulations to Gautam Raghavan (@gauragDC)! He served as Chief of Staff to US Representative @RepJayapal, an Advisor to the @bidenfoundation, and as VP of Policy for the @GillFoundation. He will now serve as the Deputy Director of the Office of Presidential Personnel.
I am excited for the opportunity to lead the Senate Black Caucus as we fight to win real safety and justice in our communities.

If confirmed, @NeeraTanden would be the first woman of color and the first South Asian American to lead the @OMBPress. Her experience and voice is vital as she has been a leading architect of bold policies to support working families, foster economic growth, and curb inequality.
Democrats Jon @Ossoff and @ReverendWarnock are relying on grassroots supporters like you to help them win the Georgia runoffs and #FlipTheSenate. Make a contribution now. https://t.co/tAzqBPuUD9
On this day 33 years ago, we lost one of the greatest that ever served: the Honorable Harold Washington, the 51st Mayor of #Chicago.
We will always cherish his memories as a long-time supporter of @IADOChicago 🙏🏾 #twill
