None of the peace negotiations have ever been about Crimea, Donbass, rights of Russian speakers, or Nato. The big question on the table is: "Is Ukraine allowed to have a credible hard power deterrent against a Russia that breaks this ceasefire?"
@asobercannibal@SeanMcCarthyCom Vietnam was able to win a war against China and the US and Canada are allied govts. Russia has invaded Ukraine twice in a decade and massacres its people. Maintaining peaceful relations has to include security guarantees. How do you expect the war to end otherwise?
@asobercannibal@SeanMcCarthyCom You don’t seem to understand why Ukraine is fighting. You seem incapable of what exactly the stakes are here. This isn’t some overblown border conflict.
@asobercannibal@SeanMcCarthyCom Should they just accept being a Russian puppet forever? Waiting to be fully annexed and massacred? You’re already telling them to get over the fact that no one will ever see justice for the people murdered and kidnapped. Should they just accept that this’ll happen indefinitely?
@asobercannibal@SeanMcCarthyCom What does a settlement look like to you? Seriously? What do you think Ukraine should get out of this? Anything that would prevent this from happening again? Or should they just kick rocks in your mind?
@asobercannibal@SeanMcCarthyCom Most Ukrainians want to fight actually. If most of them wanted an agreement I’d be fine with that. My whole argument is that it’s their choice.
@Rishi918273@asksomeone_else@MakeUSAVAT Vietnam was a war between two conventional states. Ukraine is not an existential threat to Russia, and Russia doesn’t consider it one. And who’s to say that an insurgency couldn’t start in Russian occupied Ukraine? Either now or if Ukraine stops fighting?
