KATHI PEOPLE OF GUJARAT:
Historians believe that Kathi were Scythians. They came to Saurashtra & Kutch around 7 or 8 century from Sindh. Saurashtra is known as Kathiawad. In the 7th or 8th century, Kathis came to Kutch from Sindh & settled in Kutch. Their capital was Pavargadh. Bhadresar & Kanthkot were under their rule.
In 1347 AD, Kutch Lakhiarvira Jadeja branch ruler Jam Mulvoji died in battle with Kathis after a rule of 26 years. His son Kanyoji became Kutch's ruler at the capital Habay. Jam Kanyoji (1347-1414 AD) ousted Kathis from Kutch forever.
11th century Patadi, Saurashtra ruler Harpal Makwana, who was the ancestor of Zala Rajputs, had 12 sons. His 2nd son, Manguji, became Limbdi ruler. Harpal's one son Khavdoji married in Kathi. His dynasty is known as Khavada Kathi.
In 1230, Chudasama king Ra'Mahipal 3rd became the Sorath king. He was a weak ruler. Kathis revolted against him & he & his minister were killed. In 1253, Chudasama Ra'Khengar 3rd became the Sorath ruler. He suppressed Kathis' revolt with the help of Arjunsinh of Dhank. He granted lands to Kathis.
Some surnames of the Kathis community of Saurashtra: Khachar, Khuman, Vala, Dhadhal, Jalu, Babariya, Hati, Khavad, Basiya, Shekhava, Jebaliya, etc.
