If you've already chosen SOC Analyst as your cybersecurity path, stop trying to learn everything.
Your priority isn't malware analysis.
It isn't Python.
It isn't cloud.
It's networking.
Not CCIE-level networking. Just the fundamentals.
Learn these until they become second nature:
• The OSI & TCP/IP models
• IP addresses and subnet basics
• TCP vs. UDP
• Common ports & protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, DHCP, SSH, FTP, RDP, SMB)
• How DNS works
• The TCP 3-way handshake
• How packets travel from one device to another
• How to read Wireshark captures
• How to interpret basic firewall and network logs
Why?
Because almost every alert you'll investigate starts with network traffic.
If you can't explain who talked to whom, over what protocol, and why, you'll struggle to investigate incidents.
A great SOC Analyst isn't the person who memorizes the most tools.
They're the one who understand what "normal" network traffic looks like, so they can quickly spot what isn't.
Build that foundation first. Everything else becomes easier.
