Post doctoral researcher at the @imjprg.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@rodmigor @Eremitionskies Ofc you cannot force anything. That's not my query is. I want to know if you would think that's a bad faith act or not ?

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

Imagine being a PhD student at this time. As if life isn't difficult enough. Now if you give a talk at a conference, and someone posts it online, Open AI might publish something before you. Like wtf ! The people who are defending this disgusts me.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@rodmigor @Eremitionskies No community can survive like that. We are social animals and every community survives on trust and communication. If everyone's only goal is to capitalise every opportunity to enrich ourselves by whatever means, the society would crumble tomorrow.

[Daniel Litt @littmath]

@petergostev I think you should delete this post—the quote isn’t written by Tao, it’s a guest post on his blog.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@rodmigor @Eremitionskies Sure and if someone explains his/her ideas to you , what they are working on etc in a conference and you go back and write a paper on it using his/her method, you wouldn't call it a bad faith act ?

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@rodmigor @Eremitionskies the same problem. Specially if it's communicated in some way. Open AI doesn't follow any such norms.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@rodmigor @Eremitionskies I am not trying to be a bad faith commentator. I am actually pro AI use in math. But I also want to maintain the norms we have been maintaining in the community. If a PhD student is working on a small problem, I don't know any professor who would ask their students to work on...

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@rodmigor I personally know couple of examples but since you are asking for something which appears online.

[doomslide @doomslide]

Check out this loser!

>uploads a draft to Chat on Sept. 8th
>gets scooped by Chat on Oct. 6th

"The result released by OpenAI (#311) on October 6, 2026... identical to a preliminary version of the present paper that was uploaded to ChatGPT on September 8, 2026"

LMAO get rekt

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@AuriFomo "Every good student could go for it " ? Again am I in a bubble ?

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@AuriFomo You want people to stop doing PhD ? Like anyone in mathematics ?

Obviously Le Pen is worse but it would be nice if Mèlenchon didn't say"I will destroy the economy" at every possible opportunity.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@Artful_Memes But this slop drop doesn't incentivise understanding, at some point, no one would want to understand things slowly if there is a new slop everyday.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

And what if we don't seek only the truth but the understanding ? We will be banned ?

[Elliot Glazer @ElliotGlazer]

Even I get called bearish by some, but it's all a matter of time.

Theory-building will be solved. All Millennium Problems will fall. Every mathematical insight humanity has achieved will be subsumed into the machine god's consciousness. And for those of us who seek truth, it will be ours.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@Artful_Memes I totally agree. For me and all matheaticians I know, the value is in understanding.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

@Artful_Memes Truthvalue of a statement may not mean much to me but clearly it does to lots of people.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

How I reached there, what I tried, what I want to try. Everything is immaterial. For the AI gods only the truth value matter. Hate is a strong word and I absolutely hate these people. They stand for everything I learnt not to fall for.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

What a sad day. I am struggling to keep my hopes up and I am not even anti AI. But I am anti mass producing slops for humans to digest and verify. My friend from symplectic geometry told me the the problem sessions in a conference are cancelled because they are scared.

[Partha @iamParthaSG]

As a community we were not perfect. But I still loved being in this community. I was always taught to be curious and patient. Looks like I have to be exactly opposite to survive this mass dump. No communication, just drop it on the arxiv and don't talk about it.
