"If you ask the grass, the zebra is the monster and the lion is the protector."
At first, this sounds counterintuitive. But it captures a timeless insight: our perspective shapes our understanding of reality.
To the grass, the zebra is the one that consumes it. The lion poses no such threat. Neither is inherently a hero or a villain—the judgment changes with the observer.
This beautifully echoes the Jain principle of Anekantavada (the doctrine of multiple perspectives). It teaches that truth is often too vast to be fully captured from a single viewpoint. Each perspective may reveal a part of reality, but rarely its entirety.
Anekantavada is not moral relativism, nor does it suggest that every opinion is equally correct. Rather, it encourages intellectual humility—the willingness to listen, question our assumptions, and recognize that our own understanding may be incomplete.
In a world polarized by certainty, this ancient philosophy remains remarkably relevant. Before dismissing another view, we can ask: What might they be seeing that I am not?
Understanding another perspective doesn't require abandoning our own. It simply expands our capacity for wisdom, empathy, and better judgment.
Perhaps the path to stronger leadership, healthier dialogue, and lasting harmony begins not with speaking louder—but with seeing wider.
