18 HARD DISKS WITH SENSITIVE DATA STOLEN FROM TNEB HQ
IT CONTAINS CONFIDENTIAL DETAILS ABOUT TENDERS, PURCHASES AND INVESTIGATIONS
In a brazen act of sabotage, at least 18 hard disks contai-ning confidential data, particu-larly records related to tenders, purchases and ongoing investi gations, have been stolen from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Bo ard (TNEB) headquarters on Anna Salai.
The prime target seems to be the coal purchase details under the custody of the material management department. While hard copies are available, all the key soft copies are gone. The theft happened during the weekend (May16-17), when few staff were around, after new electricity mi nister R Nirmalkumar visited the department and warned that no wrong<doer would be spared.
It, however, came to light around May 30 when employees from different sections found project fiks and official records had disappe ared from their computer systems. System administrators then found the hard disks had be en removed from the computers.
Though at least 18 hard disks have been stolen, departmental complaints have been raised only in respect of eight. The finance and several other sections appea red unwilling to report the theft either to the chairman and MD or the vigilance chief of TNEB. No one vested with the responsibility of upkeep of the disks and the data is willing to approach police with a complaint.
Officials from departments handling tenders, purchases and administrative functions reported losses. Eight assistant engineers, assistant executive engine ers and section officers submit ted complaints to senior TNEB authorities.
The complaints were initially referred to the TNEB vigilance wing headed by additional director general of police Ayush Mani Tiwari. A special team was for-med to trace the disks, which we re stolen from offices located on the fourth, fifth, seventh and 10th floors of the TNEB headquarters.
The CCTV cameras in most of these sensitive sections were removed more than five years ago, and there were allegations that it was done to ensure there was no record of the brokers who visited to swing deals that resulted in irregularities in purchases and contracts. Though vigilance officials repeatedly recommen ded CCTV camera surveillance, the superintending engineer (buildings) objected on the ground that the cost was too high.
The Chintadripet police have now registered a case under Sec tion 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A police team led by Triplicane deputy commissioner of police D Jayachandran has begun an investigation.
The theft coincides with the ongoing investigations into tender-related irregularities at Tangedco. Last week, Madras high court ordered a CBI investigation into an alleged 297-crore transformer procurement scam involving claims of cartelisation among bidders and inflated pricing. Central agencies, including Enforcement Directorate, are also examining financial transactions linked to electricity deput ment tenders awarded between 2021 and 2023.
Thiruvarur dt. collector informed that land acquisition is pending in parts for Thiruvarur Bypass project and will start soon if the same is completed.

🚨TN Govt to expedite land acquisition for railway projects. This comes amidst Indian's railway claim that nearly 75% of the land are yet to be acquired for many projects. TN Govt had instructed all district collectors to expedite land acquisition on immediate basis...🙏🙌

Dharmendra Pradhan should go.
Javadekar, and Nishank were removed from the Education Ministry for far less than what has unfolded under Pradhan's tenure.
The govt should not worry about whether Congress will portray his removal as a political victory. Let them. They are irrelevant. The govt is answerable to students and parents, and they are increasingly disillusioned by repeated paper leak controversies, CBSE evaluation discrepancies, contentious UGC regulations, and a series of avoidable crises. In recent years, there has rarely been this level of public anger directed at the Education Ministry.
Pradhan's removal should be followed by an independent probe to determine whether tender rules were altered or interpreted in a manner that favoured Coempt Edutech, and whether any conflict of interest exists between the company and anyone associated with the Education Ministry. Public confidence in the education system must be restored.
These youngsters in India are doing a great job finding issues and vulnerabilities on govt sites and IT infra.
They are also saying, at least @ni5arga told me, he gets "boilerplate thank you" from CERT_In and other departments. Nothing else.
But, imo, these youngsters must not just be acknowledged but must be rewarded and used as assets of the state.
Why hire only costly "cybersecurity experts" now when sitting all along with simple security issues that can be discovered by kids from home?
It would be good if these youngsters are all acknowledged publicly, rewarded, and invited to be a part of some CERT_IN initiative to find security and other issues in all govt sites and apps if they like to.
They will feel rewarded and acknowledged, the public will feel the govt is acting and giving opportunities to the talented, and GoI benefits from low cost fixes for low hanging fruit issues before it blows up.
I always feel India is sitting on so much of free high quality talent in everything from cyber security to infowar to AI (just read about how much Indian youngsters contributed to github) and OSInt, but are not being used by the state ecause of rigid sarkari systems and some kind of "we know it already" attitude.
GoI needs to create some sidetrack program for the talented in India to work with the Govt in many areas. Also, a site for getting internships with MPs for Indian college students will be good.

In April 2026, when the CBSE announced that three languages for Class VI students shall be made compulsory and 2 of the three languages shall be native to India, I was one amongst many who welcomed this decision that allows Children to learn multiple languages from a young age, which would help them to broaden their understanding of India’s diverse literary landscape.
In the very same notification released in April 2026, it was explicitly mentioned that the Third language for Class IX children studying in CBSE schools will be made compulsory only from the Academic year 2029-30, which is 3 years from now.
However, on 15th May 2026, the CBSE sent a notification to all affiliated schools introducing the third compulsory language for Class IX students from this academic year, rolling back its previous commitment to make it compulsory only from the academic year 2029-30.
This has come as a shock to many parents, especially those from TN, as their Children have already selected a language of choice in Class VI, and now the revised notification mandates that Class IX students learn 3 languages, 2 of which are native to India, with effect from 1st July 2026. Expecting a Class IX student to learn a new language in a short time will only pressurise children and affect their overall learning outcomes.
I request the Ministry of Education to roll back this notification immediately and to stick to the previous commitment to introduce the learning of 3 languages, of which 2 shall be native Indian languages, for Class IX, from the academic year 2029-30.

In Tamil Nadu, we have approved ₹1,427.61 crore for the construction of a 4-lane Thiruvarur Bypass on the Nagapattinam–Thanjavur section of NH-83, spanning 14.9 km, along with 2 additional ROBs on NH-129A & NH-134A.
This strategic project will strengthen connectivity between key industrial hubs like Tiruchirappalli and Coimbatore with the port towns of Karaikal and Nagapattinam, boosting regional economic activity.
The bypass, starting from Adiyakkamangalam–Thandalai, will pass through key locations including Athipuliyur, Andipalayam, Kidaramkondan, Pallivaramangalam, Perumpugalur, Elavangarkudi, and Anaivadapathy Colony, among others.
Once completed, it will significantly decongest Thiruvarur town, reduce travel time by approximately 1️⃣5️⃣ minutes, and enhance road safety by diverting traffic away from densely populated and commercial areas.
The alignment will also improve connectivity to SH-23, SH-65, and the revered Thyagaraja Swamy Temple, contributing to both infrastructure development and ease of travel in the region.

Visvesvaraya resigned as Diwan of Mysore in 1918. Not because he failed — because the government wouldn't match his pace.
He'd already built the Krishna Raja Sagara dam, set up the Bhadravati iron works, pushed for state-funded technical education. But he wanted a full industrial policy — tariff protection for local manufacturers, compulsory STEM training, state-backed factories.
The princely state thought he was moving too fast.
A century later, that gap between the reformer's ambition and the system's absorption speed is still the defining feature of Indian industrial policy. Every generation has its Visvesvaraya moment.
Until 2021, the Indian Army was still throwing a hand grenade the British designed in 1915. Grenade No. 36 Mk-I, a WW1-era weapon notorious for uneven fragmentation that occasionally maimed the thrower. Solar's EEL replaced it with 10 lakh Multi-Mode Hand Grenades and became the first private Indian company to supply complete ammunition to the armed forces.
That was only the opening act.
The deeper unlock came when DRDO transferred BrahMos solid propellant booster technology to Solar. India had been importing 35 boosters a year from Russia for its flagship cruise missile. ToT to a private company was a privilege normally reserved for DPSUs. Solar today supplies propellants and warheads across BrahMos, Pinaka, Akash and several other indigenous platforms.
Then Nagastra-1, India's first fully indigenous loitering munition at 75 percent local content. 480 units were delivered under emergency procurement in late 2024. Combat debut happened in Operation Sindoor.
January 2026, Rajnath Singh flagged off the first batch of Guided Pinaka rockets from Solar Defence and Aerospace's Nagpur plant. Armenia already buys it. Nigeria and Indonesia are next in the queue. Bhargavastra, the counter-drone system out of the same facility, was test-launched recently.
This company has quietly built a full stack in Indian defence: warhead chemistry, missile propellants, loitering munitions, guided rockets, counter-UAS.
The Padma Shri is absolutely well deserved.
Disclosure: not invested.
Despite explicit warnings from environmentalists and blanket bans in States like Gujarat and Telangana, recent highway development projects across Tamil Nadu are inexplicably continuing to plant the invasive Conocarpus tree.
