Notice the profile. Notice it every single time. Young. Long contract. Potential. Cheap enough to be model friendly. Sellable in three years if the ceiling is reached.

And now “budget for one more big player, potentially in midfield.”

Potentially. In midfield.

The ones who will celebrate Lacroix’s announcement graphic and forget that Chelsea still don’t have a settled goalkeeper, a confirmed holding midfielder, a left back with Premier League pedigree, or a striker who guarantees you 15 goals.

Activity is not ambition. Parallel negotiations are not a plan. Five simultaneous links are not a spine.

A spine is Enzo Fernandez staying.

A spine is Cucurella not going to Madrid.

A spine is one player, just one, that this club looked at and said not for any price.
