Engineer from glasgow. Interested in how technology creates more opportunities for Glaswegians and leaving climate in a decent condition for future generations.
@joe_yer99 You won’t believe it but it’s because it’s two different teams delivering cycle lanes - yellow ones are “avenues” the others are the “city network” ones
@is_glasgow The pavement they have put that bike box on is huge - not sure there is an issue, similarly the area beside me with a box has been put on a section with a huge build-out. Much better than bikes being left haphazardly.
@joe_yer99 They had the benefit (?? ) of de-industrialising their waterfront 30ish years before the Clyde did. Also the central part is more like a canal (floating basin) so doesn’t need as much complex infrastructure which can handle the tides
@joe_yer99 Do the area around science centre and carpark at the BBC first ….think there was an actual masterplan for this in 2000’s before financial crisis stopped the money
@ReplacetheM8 Think their methodology needs to be challenged on modelling the traffic if the viaduct is removed.
The area highlighted as being biggest impact is literally impossible to drive through.
They don’t look to have considered boulevard replacing viaduct
@markgallagher_2 Apple implemented something like this with their Macintosh factory in 1984. They then abandoned highly automated for flexibility of low cost labour. I think specifically the volumes of macs were less than what the factory could produce so the cost of automation wasn’t justified.
@thomasforth Bit of an interesting history - we didn’t really, we got around it by changing the definition - theirs is 220v and ours is 240v so we built electronics to work with both (230v +\- 6%)
@charlieharris01 Hey Charlie - I lead digital at one of the UK catapult centres, bringing more AI into medicine manufacturing - would be interested in connecting
@newglasgowsoc This type of celebration happens whenever a team wins the league - more questions need asked about why other cities can organise these events and Glasgow is caught out each year…..
Liverpool is about to host ticketed a title party event like they did previously in 2019…..
@UrbanistTOC @SPTcorporate I thought that was a test vehicle - if that’s really the size of it then I’m not sure what benefit it gives over a bus.
Less road damage maybe ? More likely to encourage investment in an area ? Will be interesting to see if it attracts tram riders in a way a bus doesn’t
Apparently Coventry is building a tram line at less than a fifth of the per mile cost of the Edinburgh tram, and with a construction time of *eight weeks* rather than six years. The trick is the use of battery-powered trams and shallow prefabricated tracks. A potential breakthrough?
