Special Court for trial of cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act sentenced former DMK chairperson of Kalakkad Town Panchayat & current DMK union secretary P C Rajan and former EO A Muthukumar to three years of imprisonment for illegally granting plot approvals on agricultural land and also causing a loss of Rs 1.92 crore to the government exchequer. Judge convicted the duo under three sections of the Act and awarded three years of imprisonment on each sections. However, he ordered that the sentences run concurrently, requiring them to undergo imprisonment for three years.
