The people criticising Athen’s polykatoikia urbanism because “the buildings are ugly” are missing the point.
6–7 storeys, high density, balconies, mixed-use streets, short blocks, shops at ground level and neighbourhoods where daily life is within walking distance.
Urbanism is not just about Instagrammable façades, but majority of it is about functionality. Below are street level view of that rooftops pic, look at street and cleanliness.
