Telling Great Stories Can Save Our Culture
Christians have been relegated to the slums of Hollywood for a while now.
We have struggled to tell good stories and make great films because we confuse story telling with preaching.
Almost all “Christian” Movies play like a 2 hour long sermon, rather than a dynamic story with fleshed out characters.
Our 2 hour sermovies tend to downplay the depth of human depravity, and straw-man opposing worldviews.
You know you’re watching a sermovie when you cannot imagine someone who isn’t a Christian enjoying, or even watching it.
It’s the difference between Lord of The Rings and God’s Not Dead.
God’s not Dead contains biblical truth but it comes off as a shallow story that does not reflect reality.
No Atheist has ever watched God’s not dead and thought…
“Wow, that film really moved me.”
Lord of The Rings on the other hand is beloved by Christian and Non-Christian audiences alike.
This is because Lord of The Rings is a Truer story.
It is a more faithful exploration of the human condition, with characters that virtually anyone can relate to.
And so because Lord of the Rings isn’t a sermovie, but rather an incredible story rooted in a Christian worldview, LOTR has set man more Non-Christians down the path to the Christian faith than has God’s not Dead.
Christians used to tell the best stories, but we lost our way over the last 60 years or so.
Now is the perfect time for Christians to step up to the Story Telling plate. Because Hollywood has been so captured by their woke religion that they have fallen into the same trap evangelicals fell into.
Hollywood is currently ruining itself as it churns out one woke sermovie after another.
The people are clambering for good stories.
And the people of God, who have their entire worldview rooted to the truest greatest story of all time ought to be the greatest producers of the greatest films.
Hollywood is one of the primary influences on the hearts and minds of, not only of Americans, but the entire globe.
In other words, if we can take back the arts… If we can take back our rightful place as the greatest story tellers, we will be well on our way to taking back our Culture for Christ!
Brothers and Sisters, let’s get busy!
When you consider what an enormous windfall gain it is to be born in America, it is painful to hear some people complain bitterly that someone else got a bigger windfall gain than they did.
Thanksgiving may be our most old-fashioned holiday. Gratitude itself seems out of date at a time when so many people feel “entitled” to whatever they get—and indignant that they didn't get more.
