मराठी अभ्यास केंद्रतर्फे गर्गा चॅटर्जी यांच्या अटकेचा तीव्र निषेध

गर्गा चॅटर्जी हे बंगाली भाषा, संस्कृती आणि भाषिक समतेच्या चळवळीतील कार्यकर्ते असून त्यांनी स्थापन केलेली 'बंगला पोक्खो' ही संघटना बंगाली भाषा, संस्कृती आणि स्थानिक अधिकारांच्या प्रश्नांवर काम करते. गर्गा चॅटर्जी यांच्यावर कथित वादग्रस्त पोस्टवरून करण्यात आलेली अटकेची कारवाई ही केवळ एका व्यक्तीवरील कारवाई नसून भाषिक हक्कांसाठी लढणाऱ्या व्यापक लोकशाहीवादी चळवळीवरील ही कारवाई आहे.

देशाची भाषिक आणि सांस्कृतिक विविधता ही लोकशाहीची मूलभूत ताकद आहे. मात्र अलीकडच्या काळात “एक भाषा, एक संस्कृती” या केंद्रीकरणवादी प्रवृत्तीला विरोध करणाऱ्या नागरी चळवळींवर दबाव वाढताना दिसत आहे.

हिंदी–हिंदू–हिंदुस्थान या एकसाची वर्चस्ववादी संकल्पनेला विरोध करून भाषिक समता, प्रादेशिक अस्मिता आणि संविधानिक संघराज्यवाद यांची बाजू मांडणाऱ्या कार्यकर्त्यांवर कारवाई होणे ही चिंताजनक बाब आहे. वेगवेगळ्या भाषिक समाजांच्या न्याय्य मागण्या दडपशाहीने थांबवल्या जाऊ शकत नाहीत. लोकशाही व्यवस्थेत मतभेदांना उत्तर संवादातून दिले गेले पाहिजे, दमनातून नव्हे.
ह्या पार्श्वभूमीवर, मराठी अभ्यास केंद्र पुढील मागण्या करीत आहे:

(१) गर्गा चॅटर्जी यांची तत्काळ सुटका करण्यात यावी. तसेच त्यांच्यावरील कारवाईची पारदर्शक आणि निष्पक्षपणे चौकशी करण्यात यावी.
(२) भाषिक आणि सांस्कृतिक हक्कांसाठी कार्य करणाऱ्या नागरी चळवळीतील कार्यकर्त्यांना किरकोळ कारणावरून गुन्हेगार ठरवण्याचे प्रकार त्वरित थांबवावेत.
(३) देशातील २२ प्रमुख भारतीय भाषांना समान सन्मान, अधिकार देणारी धोरणं केंद्र सरकारने स्वीकारावीत.

भाषिक समता, सांस्कृतिक विविधता आणि संघराज्य मूल्यांच्या संरक्षणासाठी मराठी अभ्यास केंद्र कटिबद्ध आहे.

आज माझ्या एका मित्राला एका गव्हर्नमेंट प्रोजेक्ट साठी HR चा कॉल आला. लोकेशन कलकत्ता. पण मग HR ने स्पष्ट सांगितलं 'Bengali language mandatory.'

त्यावर तो म्हणाला, 'मुंबईत या जॉब प्रोफाइल साठी कधी मराठी आवश्यक नसतं. उलट सध्या अनेक परराज्यातील लोक हे जॉब करत आहेत.'

त्यावर HR म्हणाली की ती स्वतः २/३ वर्ष मुंबईत होती आणि 'मुंबईत मराठीचं कुठलंच बंधन नाही, पण कलकत्त्यामध्ये बंगाली आवश्यक आहे.'

आता विचार करा, अशा किती मराठी मुलांना फक्त आपल्या राज्यात हिंदी सर्रास चालते म्हणून नोकरी धंद्याच्या संधी गमवाव्या लागतात?

Marathi Alone Matters

For the last few weeks, there is an intense debate about use of Marathi by Rickshaw and Taxi owners in https://t.co/8CdfmNckqy is a matter of surprise that this should become a topic of debate, especially when linguistic reorganisation of states is an accepted reality for almost 70 years. However, Maharashtra is a land of surprises. An issue which would be considered natural in any other state of India is contentious in Maharashtra because we, Maharashtrians are conditioned to keep the interests of others before us. Always.

In this case, the minister of transport, announced that permits of taxi and rickshaw drivers would not be renewed, if they are not fluent in Marathi. The decision is to be implemented from May 1, Maharashtra Day. This is not a new rule. Ideally, it should have been implemented ages ago. But the RTO department known for rampant corruption has seldom implemented it. That Pratap Sarnaik has chosen this moment to assert his Party’s apparent love for Marathi is a matter of curious concern. His party leadership is in a bloody battle with the BJP which has secured brutal majority in the assembly election and apparently does not need anybody including their Guwahati returned brethren. After toeing the ‘Hindi, Hindu, and Hindustan’ line of the BJP, Shindesena finds itself in a tough situation. Marathi language and Marathi Manus always help political parties navigate difficult situations during and between elections. Hence this new found love for Marathi.

That does not make the issue of making Marathi mandatory any less important.Apparently  there are 15 lakh rickshaw, taxi drivers who will go on strike from 4th of May if Marathi is made compulsory. There can be no better example of audacity and stupidity from a migrant community. From Sanjay Nirupam to Shashank Rao to Gunratna Sadavarte, everone is preaching how making Marathi compulsory is inhuman, insensitive, parochial, regressive, anti-national and so on and so forth. They do not understand that Hindi as a language has usurped Braj, Avadhi, Bundelkhandi, Bhojpuri, Magahi. Now it is Marathi’s turn. Common script between Hindi and Marathi, Cow belt arrogance of North Indian Hindus and Muslims alike has led to the hegemony and internal colonialism of Hindi. It is argued that Article 19 of the constitution gives the freedom to move and reside in any party of the territory of India. Had the constitution makers visualized that BIMARU states of the north would force their population to flood developed states of the country in such a manner that these states will eventually become colonies of the north, they would have certainly put decisive restrictions on this exodus. In any case, it is high time, states of the south and Maharashtra should come together as a front and fight against the hegemony of the north. The arrogance of the rickshaw, taxi drivers is the symptom of a deep-rooted disease where the north expects to be felicitated than punished for their systemic backwardness.

The breaking up of both Senas and NCP has strengthened the BJP and its cow belt support base in Maharashtra. Additionally, the euphoria over Ram Mandir, Love Jihad and penetration of RSS elements in all areas of Maharashtra’s social life including festivals has further emboldened the north Indians to such an extent that they have started believing that Maharashtra will be crippled in their absence. A simple suggestion. Go on an indefinite strike, Do not learn Marathi, But please ensure that you go back to your native states. You should not learn the language if you are not comfortable. Let us accept that Marathi Manus is not comfortable with your presence when you detest our language so much. Please explore the possibility of developing your states, speaking in your mother tongue and then taking pride in the Hindi Heartland.

For the Marathi Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists and Jains (the rural folks not the Kabutarwallahs of central and south Mumbai) this is the moment of reckoning, Seventy years after the martyrdom of 107 people in the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, we have reached a point where the very identity of Maharashtra is at stake. The possible trifurcation of the state of Maharashtra where MMR may become a state or Union territory demographically dominated by the north and financially butchered by jain, Marwaris is going to undo everything that we have fought for. Imposition of Hindi, carving out of MMR, destruction of natural resources for Shaktipeeth, increasing state supported communalization and collective arrogance of the so called north Indian poor together form a formidable challenge to the very identity of Maharashtra – Maharashtradharma Hence this has to be handled with a firm hand without any space for appeasement.

Let everyone in Maharashtra realise that Language Matters and in Maharashtra it is Marathi and Marathi alone.

सर्वात धक्कादायक बाब म्हणजे, समस्या न सुटल्याने जेव्हा मी 'सिनिअर टीम'ला कॉल ट्रान्स्फर करायला सांगितला, तेव्हा सांगण्यात आले की तुमच्याकडे मराठी बोलणारी सिनिअर टीमच उपलब्ध नाही!
जर तुमच्याकडे सक्षम मराठी कर्मचारी नाहीत, तर मराठी भाषेचा पर्याय देऊन ग्राहकांची फसवणूक का करताय? महाराष्ट्रात व्यवसाय करताना मराठी भाषिकांची ही थट्टा थांबवा. आम्हाला नावापुरतं नाही, तर खऱ्या अर्थाने मराठीत सेवा हवी आहे! 🚩
