One day, God’s servant, Gbile Akanni was once invited to a conference in a part of Nigeria. While he was speaking, there was a sudden commotion. It was a major distraction. What had happened? A famous preacher in Nigeria, who was also one of the guest ministers, had arrived with a retinue of personal assistants. There were these rumblings and movements in the facility. The host minister had also stood up to meet up with the “famous” guest minister, contributing further to the chaos that had now enveloped the once quiet facility, while the man of God was already in the middle of an important ministration.

They walked the popular minister into the auditorium, and just before the “big man of God” sat down, the host pastor walked up to the podium while Daddy Gbile Akanni was still speaking and requested that he should take his seat because it was time to welcome and celebrate the “big man of God” who had just arrived.

Daddy Gbile released the microphone, picked up his Bible, and went back to his seat. The host pastor took his time to introduce and celebrate the “big man of God.” In fact, he invited him to come up to the podium to greet the church, to which he obliged. After the “big man of God” was done, the host pastor returned to the pulpit to bring back Daddy Gbile Akanni to the podium to continue his message.

The man of God did exactly just that. But to the amazement of the audience, he didn’t say anything about what had happened. In fact, it was as though nothing had happened. He actually greeted and celebrated the big man of God too, and continued from where he was interrupted.

After the meeting, Daddy Gbile was taken back to his hotel, and that was when he knew what had transpired across a section of the congregation. He had barely taken off his clothes and relaxed when he had a knock on his door. It was a team of some guests who had attended the meeting from another state. They were at the hotel to connect with Daddy Gbile Akanni and apologise to him, because, according to them, they had never in their lives seen how a servant of God could be embarrassed like this without saying a word after the episode. They told him that they saw all the drama that happened, and as shocked as they were with what the host pastor had done, they were more intensely shocked at Baba Gbile’s calm and humble disposition to the situation.

…the move of the Spirit does not violate the fruits of the Spirit: love, humility, meekness, faithfulness, self-control, joy, perseverance, endurance, and peace. God does not and will not contradict Himself. In all situations, we, ministers or believers in general, must always be overtly fruit conscious, and not be overtly encounter and power conscious at the expense of fruits.

You know what shook me when I was Muslim?

The story of Hosea. God tells a prophet to marry a woman He knows will betray him.

She does. She runs to other men. She ends up enslaved, sold, used up, worthless to the world.

And God tells Hosea to go BUY HER BACK.

To pay money for his own wife who cheated on him, and love her again. Hosea 3.

I thought it was the most humiliating command in the Bible. Why would any man do that?

Then I realized I was the wife.

I gave my heart to everything but God. I chased other masters. I sold myself cheap. I made myself worthless.

And God looked at me, the betrayer, and didn’t say “you’re not worth it.”

He said, “Name the price. I’m buying her back.”

That’s the Gospel. God doesn’t wait for the unfaithful to come crawling back clean.

He pays to redeem them while they’re still dirty.

Islam told me to make myself worthy of God.

Hosea showed me a God who pays to redeem the unworthy.

The cross was Him naming the price.

Praise the Lord.

The painful truth is this…

If the average believer in Nigeria were to read the Book of Acts without the influence of our present culture, he would almost conclude that he was reading about an entirely different religion.

Somewhere along the journey… we changed the tune.
The Church in the Bible sang one song. The Church in Nigeria has gradually learned another.

The Church in the Bible sought conformity to CHRIST.
We seek acceptance from men. They raised disciples.
We have become experts at raising audiences.

The sound coming from our altars is no longer the sound that echoed through Jerusalem… through Antioch… through Ephesus… through the Church that “turned the world upside down.”

The frightening part is this…

A generation can become so accustomed to a substitute that it mistakes it for the original.
And perhaps that is where we are.

We have become familiar with a version of Christianity that the Apostles would scarcely recognize.

One of the greatest judgments that can befall a people is not that they abandon the Bible.

It is that they continue holding the Bible while no longer allowing the Bible to define them.

I fear this is where the Church in Nigeria now stands.
We still raise our Bibles. We still quote the Scriptures.
We still end every sermon with, “GOD bless you.” But somewhere between the Upper Room and our generation…

We changed the tune. Read the Book of Acts carefully.
Read the Epistles slowly. Read the words of our LORD without trying to defend our present condition.

Then ask yourself… Who changed? Because it certainly was not GOD. The Gospel has not changed.
The HOLY GHOST has not changed. The demands of discipleship have not changed.

The cost of following CHRIST has not become cheaper. We changed. We altered the sound.

If you are reading this, can you make a solemn vow to the LORD. Tell HIM, “You will commit Your entire life to ensuring that this Gospel will not change in your hands.”

START FROM WHERE YOU ARE

For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth. - (Zechariah 4:10)

Some people choose to be passive and not apply themselves in their careers and even things that have to do with God's Kingdom, because they don't want to start small. They keep postponing the things they ought to do because they feel that they are not equipped enough. If God has given you an assignment, you should not wait until you feel you are good enough to start. This is because He knew your capacity and imperfections before He chose you. Even though you need to keep growing and equipping yourself so you can progressively become a more valuable vessel in His hands, you should not keep God waiting once He commissions you for an assignment because you want to become perfect for the assignment.

In John 4:1-30, when Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman, she returned to her people and started telling them about Jesus. All she had was one encounter with the Master, but it was enough for people to follow her to see Him and encounter Him also. She didn't first enrol in a theological school or go for classes with the Scribes; she started from where she was and with what she had.

When God called Moses in Exodus 3, he felt like he was not competent enough for the job. He kept giving God excuses and even suggested that He choose someone else. God never calls the qualified; rather, He always equips those He chooses.

God can choose to bypass individuals who seem vastly experienced and qualified, and select a totally inexperienced and unqualified person. For example, God bypassed Jesse's older sons to choose David, the lastborn of the family, who appeared unqualified for kingship. Psalm 78:70-71 says that God picked David from the sheepfolds and brought him to feed His inheritance. God delights in using the foolish things of the world to confound the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27). He also can choose to hide some things from the wise and rather reveal them to babes (Matthew 11:25).

Beloved, has God called you to do something for Him? Look beyond your current resources and what seems to be your capacity, and launch out. Start from where you are; don't despise your little beginnings. On Judgement Day, God will not be concerned about the skilled and qualified; rather, He will be looking to say, "... Well done, thou good and faithful servant..." (Matthew 25:21). Start small, remain faithful, and the Lord will equip you with all that you need as you carry out your divine assignments.

KEY POINT:
When God gives you an assignment, start from where you are.

We went from 0 to 2,200 paying customers in under a year by following @ycombinator's 15 rules:

1/ Do things that don't scale. Get your first 10 customers by hand.

2/ Launch now, not when it's "ready". A mediocre product in front of real users teaches you more in a week than 6 months of polishing in the dark.

3/ Charge from day one. If nobody will pay, you don't have a startup, you have a hobby.

4/ Talk to users every single day. The roadmap you need is sitting in your customers' heads, and they'll hand it to you for free

5/ Always hunt the 90/10 solution. For almost any feature there's a way to capture 90% of the value with 10% of the effort.

6/ There are only two real jobs: write code and talk to users. Everything else (conferences, press, VC coffees, corp dev calls) is fake work.

7/ You pick your customers as much as they pick you. 10 users who love you beat 1,000 who kind of like you.

8/ Growth is an output, not a strategy. Grow before product market fit and all you're buying is churn.

9/ Do less, really well. Pick one or two metrics and judge every task against them.

10/ Know if you're default alive. Paul Graham's question: on current growth and current burn, do you reach profitability before the money runs out?

11/ Don't hire until it hurts. Headcount is not progress, it's burn. Every great startup was embarrassingly small for embarrassingly long.

12/ Momentum is the only real moat in year one. Ship something every week, even something tiny.

13/ Every great startup is badly broken at some point. The game isn't avoiding fires, it's how fast you put them out. Again. And again

14/ Ignore your competitors. Startups die of suicide, not murder. In year one, the only company that can kill yours is your own

15/ Startups rarely die from running out of money. They die because the founders fall out. Brutal honesty with your cofounder is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy

A Celebration of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye

There comes a time when silence becomes ingratitude.

There comes a time when honour becomes a sacred duty.

There comes a time when sons and daughters must rise to celebrate the gifts that God has given to a generation.

This is such a time.

We refuse to be silent while men and women of eternal significance are reduced to headlines, controversies, and social media trends.

We refuse to stand by while those who have sacrificed decades in service to God and humanity are casually criticized by people who have built nothing, fathered nobody, planted no churches, and transformed no nations.

The sons and daughters of prophets must never be silent while cheap publicity seekers use great men as instruments for attention.

A generation that does not honour its fathers has no future.

A people who cannot recognize greatness in their midst will eventually suffer the tragedy of its absence.

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye is not merely a church leader.

He is not merely a denomination head.

He is not merely a respected minister.

He is one of the most significant Christian leaders of our generation and one of the greatest spiritual gifts God has given to Africa and the global Church.

We should never allow a man who chose humility to become the chewing stick of the uninformed.

We should never permit the noise of critics to drown out the voice of history.

We should never watch while modern-day Sauls seek to intimidate, discredit, or silence God's servants.

Scripture records how King Saul pursued David.

Scripture records how Doeg the Edomite became an instrument of destruction against the priests of God.

Throughout history, political power has often sought to suppress prophetic voices.

Yet God has always preserved His servants and vindicated His purpose.

The Church must never become indifferent when its fathers are unfairly attacked.

Nor should we wait until our prophets cross into eternity before we begin to celebrate them.

Too often, flowers are sent to funerals when they should have been delivered while the recipient was still alive.
