As we celebrated thanksgiving with our families here in the United States, nine #Orthodox Christian Ethiopians living in Arsi Zone, Shirka Wereda in the #Oromia Region were brutally slaughtered after being taken from their homes in the middle of the night by a known militia group some call “Shene”but others have also referred to as Koree Nageenyaa , which is believed to be a government run secret kill squad operated by members of the #ProsperityParty.

According to a report by Enat Party and Meseret Media (look at thread below), the perpetrators came to a home in Sole Tuja Kebele in Shirka Wereda Arsi Zone, around 2am in the middle of the night. Eyewitnesses claimed that the perpetrators selected their victims and took them to a nearby riverside, where “they laid them down and slaughtered them in the most barbaric way”.

The report from Meseret Media asserts that there were at least 2 elderly men over the age of 70, an elderly woman and some youth among those selected for slaughter. However the report provided by @AAA_Amhara / @neby_G (below) shows a close but different age dispersion which also includes 2 elderly people (one 65, one 58) and the rest of the victims as relatively young similar to the Meseret Media report published by Enat Party. Both reports assert and indicate that the victims were of one household (family members).

Meseret media reports that in addition to the 9 victims that were killed, another 4 were abducted, with their condition or whereabouts still unknown. These abducted individuals were;

Ato Genene Tekalign,
Kassahun Eshetu,
Ato Abebe Assefa and
Ato Shiberu Assefa.

Furthermore this same report indicates that 2 other people were killed in recent days, with another 8 individuals also abducted from the same area in recent days. None of the abducted individuals have been located or heard from.

The 9 individuals pictured below and the 2 other killed in recent days makes the total number of 11 killed that has been reported by both accounts. The full list of the deceased can be found in the report from AAA below.

This is yet another incident involving the violent killing of Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia primarily in the Oromia region. Throughout the past few years there has been an increasing number of attacks on Orthodox Christians mostly in the Oromia region, where Orthodox Christian much like Amhara people have been routinely killed by a “phantom group” the government calls Shene and others have identified as Koree Nageenyaa

(Security Committee in the Oromo language - which began operating in the months after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came to power in 2018. The committee’s existence has not been previously reported) - source (1 below)
