@Big_Mck Names are simply linguistic pointers. Translating a title or concept into a newer language does not mean the underlying concept didn't exist prior to the translation.
@Big_Mck This is a category mistake and a form of the genetic fallacy. The celestial body we call the "Sun" existed billions of years before humans invented the English language. The fact that the word "Sun" is only a few centuries old does not mean the star didn't exist...
@Big_Mck ...until humans named it. The same logic applies to theology: a deity would exist independently of the human vocabulary used to describe them.
As someone who has notably criticised Nigerian women for their lack of communication and conversational skills, I generally read the comments whenever the conversation comes up, even when I don’t care enough to comment. But I find this interesting.
I’d say, in response, that your day need not be interesting before you say something. Some level of selflessness constitutes the foundation of good conversation. What I mean is that the best conversationalists aren’t self-absorbed. It’s not particularly about what they say, but the accommodation they give people to project themselves into the conversation.
Look, there’s no one way to have a good conversation. I think people are oddly uptight these days—even though their lifestyles are “looser” than people of previous generations.
We chastise women for being poor conversationalists, but when some men insist on having “intellectual conversations” and start talking about geopolitics and Plato and Socrates, I often view it as a subtle brag. It’s bullshit. Nobody cares about your supposedly “deep thoughts.” Intellect is fluid. You can play around with the thought of how sugar mixes with coffee compared with tea. You can talk about the difference between the sun in Lagos and the sun in Enugu. You can talk about why girls should wear more polyester dresses on Sundays. It doesn’t have to be weighty. Take yourself lightly and make an effort to “see” the other person without putting pressure on them.
Three years ago, I was an associate in a law firm in Ikoyi that was big on Admiralty. We were at a maritime law conference and luncheon at the Colonnades Hotel in Ikoyi. I told the lady beside me that there was a time in when it was acceptable to smoke indoors and on such occasions. I then asked her what she thought about it.
One could say that I started the conversation because I was getting bored, but while we spoke about something I was largely interested in, and which I had started the conversation about, she was quite invested because I had “invited” her to teach me about her thinking process. She was inclined to do so because she knew I’d appreciate it.
Because I’m writing this, one might be tempted to commend my conversational skills, but I imagine that if the lady hadn’t carried the conversation along, I’d have gone back to fighting sleep.
The point I’m trying to make is that it’s not so much about what happened during your day. It’s about your appreciation of your day, a song, a scenario you encountered, something from the other person’s day, and, most importantly, the person’s appreciation of these things. And if you don’t feel like having a conversation, that’s fine. You can turn it off until later.
But if you hardly know what to say unless there’s a notable event or something tragic, then you have to ask yourself why and do something about it. The problem with a lot of women today is that they simply don’t care. They want to ramble (“yap”) about everything and nothing, pouring random words onto you aimlessly. It’s also selfish because they use you as a medium to pour out whatever is on their mind without really engaging you.
Personally, I don’t like yappers. But if the person yapping is someone who is great at conversation, then I’d consider the yapping an expression of familiarity and trust, and embrace it.
Women will never understand the simple joy men get from just existing.
A man can arrive in a new city, walk around for hours, explore random streets, observe people, and be completely fucking content.
Then a woman joins.
Now there needs to be an agenda.
Cafe. Restaurant. Shopping. Tourist spot. Photos.
Next location.
Something always has to be happening.
Meanwhile, a man can grab a good drink, sit in the town square for three hours, watch the world move around him, and think:
"Yeah. This is f*cking nice."
No itinerary. No entertainment. No destination.
Just existing without needing existence to entertain you.
Being a man is peaceful.
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on this app. I encourage every Muslim to watch and share it. I implore others who loves the truth and knowledge of o watch it too. It's really lovely.
Have a blessed week.
