An unending gory story in our land.

I woke up this morning reading about yet another gory and deeply distressing report from Bokkos, Plateau State. Entire families have again, been slaughtered in yet another senseless attack. Children and pregnant women were not spared.

Five communities in Bokkos: Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai have been left in mourning, forced to bury their loved ones in mass graves.

How long will these killings, kidnapping, maiming and criminality continue in our nation that is not at war? How long must we wait to act decisively and focus on this drastic situation that is crippling our nation? How many more must die before the government act for the people?

We are now normalizing mass killings and mass burials as a way of life in our nation. Every Nigerian life is sacred, whether in Edo State, Benue, Enugu, Borno, Anambra, Ondo, or Plateau.
Communities now live in fear and no longer have a livelihood either in their farms or in their markets, without being killed, kidnapped, and maimed. Communities like Bokkos in Plateau, Jato-Aka in Benue, Eha-Amufu in Enugu, Ufuma in Anambra, and Aba Oyinbo in Ondo deserve government protection.

We must end this grief and terror, as this is becoming extremely unacceptable.

The government and security agencies must ensure that these killings are stopped, concrete steps are made to prevent future occurrences, and those arrested face the justice they deserve.

My heart goes to the people of Bokkos, and others in various communities.

No Nigerian should live in fear as the government must do what it takes to protect Nigerians.

Today is International Women's Day, a day set aside by the global community to celebrate women and womanhood.

It's also a time to honour women's achievements and advance advocacy for their rights, opportunities, and empowerment.

This year's theme : "For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment," emphasizes the importance of protecting women's rights and fostering their empowerment for the progress of our nation.

Women in Nigeria who have shown enormous resilience remain trapped in cycles of poverty, with limited access to basic healthcare—marked by low neonatal care high infant mortality, education, and other essential services. Among the millions of out-of-school children, girls account for the majority.

They continue to bear the brunt of the rising insecurity as they are disproportionately affected by violence, abductions, and other forms of insecurity.

Despite their critical contributions to society, Nigerian women hold only 6% of leadership positions in the private sector, while political representation continues to decline, reaching its lowest point after the 2023 elections.

Even for the few women who break through these systemic barriers and secure positions of power, the challenges are relentless. Senator Ireti Kingibe and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan are just two examples of women who, despite their electoral victories, continue to face the harshest forms of discrimination and hostility in our public space.

These examples lay bare the brutal reality for women in politics—a system that not only resists their inclusion but actively works to push them out.

Without affirmative action to guarantee a minimum of 25% representation in all decision-making bodies—across all arms of government, both elective and appointive women will remain excluded. The same principle should apply in the corporate world and other areas of our national livelihood.

Aggressive investment in girl-child education—particularly in educationally disadvantaged areas—is essential if we are to break these cycles of inequality and underdevelopment.

I continue to advocate for women because of the critical role they play in family and national development.

The time to act is now. Women are the backbone of our society, and the progress of our nation depends on ensuring they have equal opportunities to shape our collective future.

Yesterday was, for me, a fulfilled day, as I participated in activities around the most important tool of development "Education"

I have consistently preached the necessity for public officeholders to honour their campaign promises; even if they don't achieve 100%, the people want to see 100% efforts and sacrifices.

It was a principle I saw embodied in Prof. Lilian Orogbu, @Oby_Orogbu former Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences at Nnamdi Azikiwe University and now a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Awka North and South Federal Constituencies.

I graciously honoured her persistent invitation to commission her projects, which are all around the tenets of the human development index (HDI)

We commissioned 2 newly constructed classroom blocks for Secondary School and Primary School at Ezi-Awka Community Secondary School and Ezi-Agulu Awka Community Primary School, respectively.

The joy radiating from the faces of both teachers and students underscored their excitement and appreciation.

It was more than just a building; it was a beacon of hope for a better society.

Thereafter, we commissioned a vital road to the Youth Village, a privately built modern hostel, similar to a hostel in developed nations, that houses some students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The rector of the Youth Village described the moment as the fulfilment of a promise made by Prof. Orogbu during her electioneering campaign. His words captured the essence of true leadership - faithfulness to one’s word.

While thanking Honorable Lillian and many others like her for their efforts, I continue in my earnest prayers for a Nigerian President who will completely remain faithful to his or her campaign promises and sacrifice for the needs of the people.
