In 1876, Van Gogh didn’t have any money to pay for the train from Ramsgate to London, so he decided to walk. The 120-kilometre trip took him two days. Luckily, he got a ride on a farmer’s cart for some of the way. At night, he rested for a few hours under a large beech tree.
