The announcement of @AxieInfinity's Atia's Legacy marks a pivotal moment in the seven-year journey of Web3 's most successful gaming ecosystem.

In our last writing their pre-registration campaign had amassed 225,913 pre-registrations.

But now, the pre-registration number sky-rocketed to over 17 million+.

This launch represents more than just a new game; it cements the ecosystem's position as the cornerstone of both Ronin and Web 3 gaming as a whole

Ronin Market Updates: Trait Bidding 🫴

Ronin Market is innovating NFT trading with its Trait Offer (aka Trait Bidding) feature, specifically designed for gaming NFTs. This enhancement addresses one of the most persistent challenges in the ecosystem: trading assets whose traits evolve as players progress.

Their solution, outlined in a preview thread (made by @quybeans) employs a clever verification mechanism which involves an "NFT metadata review" process:

🔹When a seller accepts a trait offer, the NFT transfers to a smart contract, revoking seller access
🔹The offer moves to a "Checking" status while metadata is verified

A standout feature is the introduction of range-based trait offers, allowing buyers to target NFTs with numeric stats within specific ranges. "Buy any Ragmon between Level 1 and 5," for example, eliminates the need to create separate offers for each individual value—a significant quality-of-life improvement for traders of stat-based gaming assets.

With launch expected in the near future, this feature could significantly enhance liquidity for gaming NFTs while establishing a new standard for how NFT marketplaces handle evolving digital assets.

Making Waves: Fishing Frenzy's Growth 🎣

@FishingFrenzyCo has become Ronin's latest breakthrough success, with over 450,000 players already engaged in its cozy RPG experience.

The game, which launched its full version this month following a successful January alpha that attracted over 500,000 initial users, exemplifies the player-driven economy approach gaining traction across Web 3 gaming.

The gameplay loop centers around catching fish, preparing them as sashimi, and exchanging them for Pearls—the game's primary reward currency. These Pearls enable players to earn Frenzy Points, positioning them for future rewards and establishing a foundation for the game's evolving economy.

The Ronin effect is clearly visible in the metrics:

Liquid RON 💧

By depositing RON, users receive Liquid RON tokens representing their stake in the network's validation process. These tokens appreciate over time through automated compounding of staking rewards.

Built on the ERC-4626 standard and fully audited through Code4rena, Liquid RON creates new possibilities for capital efficiency. What makes this particularly noteworthy is how it parallels developments in other ecosystems while maintaining Ronin's gaming-focused DNA.

Some thoughts about Off The Grid and web3 gaming in general.

After billions of dollars deployed into web3 gaming with the promise of AAA games, OTG is the only game which delivers something close.

The Go-To-Market with the biggest gaming influencers is what we would expect of a AAA launch. It likely costs $10M+

Graphically and gameplay wise it seems good but the web3 integration is light for now. Hopefully they are able to convert players to active web3 users but that will take time to play out.

Will be following closely to see if web3 ends up being benefit to the game or a negative as the game economy expands and retracts.

My hunch is that OTG would have done well even without web3, but that by promising web3 the team was able to raise the funds required to ship the game they wanted.

I currenly view OTG as a web2.5 game which has some NFTs, but it doesn’t utilize the full advantages of web3. This has in the past proven to be challenging for users as they experience a lot of onboarding issues but not enough benefits.

With that said I think its very interesting to follow and it will likely bring some fresh eyes into our industry. Particularly western audiences who dislike the earn side of web3 gaming.

From @Ronin_Network’s side we will continue to partner with game studios who want to experiment with deep game economies. These games will need to iterate frequently and that does not work well with having a AAA graphic development cycle (years) for now.

@pixels_online and @AxieInfinity are the perfect examples of what we are looking for.

Games that can get to market fast and continously iterate with the feedback they are getting from their users.

These are experiences that eventually will evolve beyond normal games into digital worlds which will provide jobs for hundreds of millions of users.

Web3 live ops experience is needed to build a solid economy which can support this vision.

I currenly don’t see OTG heading into that direction, which means the valuation should be that of a normal AAA game.

The point of yields and incentives are to catalyze the formation of a network.

Networks become valuable as more people use them.

They are useless if nobody is using them.

Incentives solve the cold start problem, a problem masterfully articulated by @andrewchen in his book.

How do you get people to use a global financial network when it doesn't have critical mass to be very useful yet?

Incentives.

I hope that @andrewchen and @VitalikButerin can sit down together. Vitalik has a great knowledge of engineering, cryptography, computer science, and economics.

However I believe he still needs some more context and guidance when it comes to distribution and growth.
