@julieteaxher@Missymusician81@philsharrock You're making a lot of assumptions there. I wore the same clothes all day (no uniform at my school), I didn't get changed when I got home. That's not embarrassing, it's normal. My parents didn't have much money, I didn't have loads of clothes and ones I did have were cheap.
@ProximalAI@philsharrock Let's put it this way, when did you ever see any news items claiming uniform saves families money? You don't because it doesn't. And you have provided nothing to support your rather ridiculous assertion.
@ballater6@philsharrock I attended state school in the UK, never wore a uniform. I managed to get a 2:1 from a top 10 university, so clearly it didn't do me any harm. I also attended an inner city school and was first generation to attend uni (parents were factory workers).
@sf_lang@philsharrock These people are paid to wear a uniform which is provided by their employer. The uniform is usually something practical and comfortable. Kids meanwhile are sent to school dressed like badly coordinated businessmen, at their family's expense.
@ProximalAI@philsharrock You have evidence to back up the idea that having to buy a second set of clothes saves families money? I know it doesn't save my family money.
@julieteaxher@Missymusician81@philsharrock I don't follow? Having a uniform requires kids to have more outfits not less. They still need clothes for outside school. Clothes which would be perfectly suitable for school. Uniform requires families to buy a second set of clothes.
@JosephineIngra1 @Missymusician81@philsharrock Especially as there isn't a school in the country that doesn't have problems with bullying, uniform or not.
@ITimbrell@philsharrock Often for safety/hygiene reasons. They are paid to wear their uniforms which are paid for by the employer. Also usually much more comfortable and practical than school uniforms.
@philsharrock There's very little evidence to support the idea that school uniforms are beneficial. They're just a huge financial drain on families and a distraction for teachers. There's a reason many countries don't bother with them.
@LeRef5@DavidLu44923914@HKPhooey21@UP19755 And by people being registered who shouldn't be I am talking about people who have moved away or died. Not everyone changes GP when they move until they actually need to see one.
