The National President of Scripture Union Nigeria - Engr Uwen Cosmas Udoh and 7 Other National Executives of the organization were kidnapped last Sunday 14th June 2026 around 7 a.m on Orlu - Mgbidi Road after departing Okigwe (Their national campground) enroute Ibadan (the National Headquarters).

They just rounded off their national campus fellowship conference

This incident has thrown their families and the christian missions community into uncertainty and distress.

This is how I like people to do analysis. With facts. It is definitely a valid concern in skin of color and it is a debate that has been ongoing for sometime. Black skin has natural UV protection that is about 13.4 - about 4 times higher than Caucasian skin. However, that is not enough protection against the effects of UV radiation such as photoaging, hyperpigmentation and skin cancers. The first two are of great concern in black skin as that is what we suffer from the most. Sun induced cancers also occur in black skin too just not as common as Caucasian skin. If you look at someone that has consistently used sunscreen over the years in black skin and another that has not, you’ll see the difference especially with skin aging. Several studies have been done and it has been noted that using sunscreen in black skin does not really impair vitamin D production except if you already had other reasons to be vitamin D deficient.
If you also cover up all your body and you are never out in the sun, then that might also be a problem. But it is a problem that has a solution - You can do Vitamin D supplementation. What do you use to supplement sunscreen? Nothing. Please use sunscreen. If you ask me what has been the game changer for my skin from the time I knew how to do the right thing, it is the use of moisturizer and sunscreen. I think I look far better than I used to when compared to 15 years ago.
With the way most use sunscreen here, you’re not even doing it well enough to affect anything…

The verdict - Use sunscreen. The benefits far outweighs any conceived ills that you think it has. Your skin will thank you for it.
