Obake (γεγ) are a class of Japanese supernatural beings β shapeshifters and transformed spirits. The word literally means "thing that changes." In Japanese folklore they're objects or creatures that have lived long enough, or experienced enough emotional energy, that they develop a spirit and take on a life of their own.
