On Pyrrhic victories: your December ask is a recorded vote against the full-spectrum CBD access the President demanded in writing, that Medicare now delivers to seniors, and that the VFW asked for on behalf of veterans. Texas already ran that experiment. The ban cost its legislature 51 points of favorability with Trump’s own pollster, and it turned a +14 state into a dead-heat Senate race. Republicans want this regulated, not banned: 59-23 in Texas, 77% nationally. Nobody was bullied. The party read its voters. Some victories are worth losing.

The roll call says otherwise. Republicans up for re-election voted to table at 58%. Republicans who don’t face voters until 2030 voted 69%. The least pressurable cohort was the most against you, and Collins, the most endangered Republican in the country, voted with you. Also: 35 of the 61 weren’t Republicans at all. Your whole coalition is smaller than the Democratic side of the vote alone. In November, keeping the ban on track got 76 votes. After eight months of “educating every member,” it got 32.
