How can @alanwinde & @geordinhl allow FULL closure of the ONLY Olympic std COVERED cycling track in SA & KILL the dreams of overseas competition for so many youngsters ESPECIALLY the lesser privileged!!! That just for money. So much for making the WC the HOME of Cycling in SA
โCycling is something like life, because in life youโre not going to find life only flat, never, youโre not going to race a bike only on the flat. At least there will be some small hills, and that is life.โ
If you have 83 seconds to spare today, spend it watching this video of the wonderful and expressive Nantume Miria, just 19 years old and hopefully a rising star of African womenโs cycling, from Uganda โค๏ธ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๐ฌ
She is kindly giving @RossBurrage - the co-founder of the truly incredible Masaka Cycling Club charity who supports her - a tour of her family home, of which she is clearly so proud โค๏ธ
Miria is the sole income earner for her whole family. She supports her family with the income she receives through a Masaka Cycling Club scholarship. It pays her brotherโs school fees and her motherโs living costs, as she is largely immobile.
The passion at Masaka Cycling Club is to change not only Miriaโs life but that of her whole family. She is also a part of the brilliant @Cyclists_All mentoring programme for 2026, and we hope she will attract a team for the 2027 season, having narrowly just missed a Continental team this year.
Masaka Cycling Club is an entirely donor-funded charity, and runs an initiative called #Project500 - aiming to have 500 donors worldwide helping them do what they do. They are on around 290 wonderful benefactors right now, letโs get them to 500 and help riders like Miria follow their passion! Hit up their website (link below) to make a donation! โค๏ธ๐บ๐ฌ

Congrats 20yo Yafiet Mulugeta of #Eritrea for being the first African rider to get a podium at @sharjahtour 2026 today, with a strong third place! He jumps 44 spots to #25 in the overall GC.
Yafiet is another of the new crop of strong Eritrean riders and spent several months in 2025 with the @WCC_cycling
He is now on a trainee programme for the recently established Sharjah Cycling Club team, with his countryman Natan Medhanie who finished #18 today ๐๐

There are 148 British riders racing for UCI teams in 2025. Just 1 is from an ethnic minority.
British competitive cycling has an ethnic diversity problem. I looked into why and what is being done about it in this week's @cyclingweekly mag
For many young cyclists from outside of Europe, access to European racing is often the toughest hurdle to overcome
