“If UPI is costing the ecosystem money, why shouldn’t users pay for it?” - That’s the wrong question!
The right question is: what is the opportunity cost of charging UPI transactions and what are its social benefits?
India built UPI as sovereign-backed digital public infrastructure. And UPI has the characteristics of a public good:
1. Open and interoperable: Banks, fintechs and apps can connect to a common rail. One person’s use does not prevent another’s use.
2. Extremely low marginal cost: Once the infrastructure exists, adding another digital transaction is vastly cheaper than moving another rupee through the physical cash ecosystem.
3. Network externalities: The value of UPI to me rises when more people and merchants accept it. Every additional user makes the network more valuable to everyone else.
4. Financial inclusion: A small merchant does not need a card machine, a costly acquiring infrastructure or a proprietary payment network. A QR code is enough.
5. Formalisation and transparency: Digital transactions create an auditable trail, reducing the economic costs associated with informality, cash leakage and tax evasion.
6. Innovation externalities: Because the underlying rail is open and interoperable, entrepreneurs can build new applications and financial products on top of it.
7. Cash displacement: Every rupee shifted from cash to UPI can reduce the resources devoted to ATMs, cash transportation, security, handling and reconciliation.
8. Sovereign and systemic value: UPI gives India a domestic, interoperable payments rail rather than making the country’s payment infrastructure dependent on private international networks.
So the economics cannot be evaluated using private cost versus private benefit.
It has to be evaluated using: Social benefit − Social cost, because a large part of UPI’s benefit accrues to people other than the person making the transaction.
That is precisely what economists mean by a positive externality.
And this brings us to opportunity cost.
If the alternative is a more cash-intensive economy with ATMs, cash logistics, security, reconciliation and the associated infrastructure, then the relevant question is not:
“How much does one UPI transaction cost NPCI?”
It is:
“What resources does society have to give up to process that transaction through UPI rather than the next-best alternative?”
The opportunity cost of UPI is the resources required to maintain the digital rail.
But the opportunity cost of not using UPI includes the resources required to maintain the much more expensive cash ecosystem.
That comparison changes the economics completely.
The question therefore is not:
“Who is subsidising UPI?”
It is:
“Why would we impose a charge on a public infrastructure that generates benefits far beyond the individual transaction?”
UPI should be evaluated the same way.
There is no consept of coversion and world dominance in hinduism.
A generations have all kinds people with different level critical thiking and analysing capacity. The new generation no different. So, religion isnt going anywhere.
Every religion will eventually die.
Every religion thinks it is going to win. Hindus think one day Hinduism will dominate the world. Muslims think one day the whole world will accept Islam. Christians think Christianity will eventually reach everyone. All three are preparing for the wrong competition.
The future is not Hindu vs Muslim vs Christian. It is religion vs a new generation that has science, education, AI, unlimited information and the freedom to question everything.
Religion survived for thousands of years because information was controlled by a small group of people, (pandits, maulvis and priests) and questioning religion itself was considered disrespectful.
For the first time in human history, information can no longer be controlled.
The new generation is fearless and intelligent - They have more information, question everything and are increasingly unwilling to accept something just because someone said it thousands of years ago.
You can already see the change today. This generation is questioning beliefs their parents never dared to question. (that's why many beliefs have already disappeared) The next generation will defiantly question even more.
Your grandchildren will not simply believe your religious stories because you believed them. They will question every uncomfortable claim, every miracle and every 'God said so.' They won't care how old the story is or how sacred you consider it.
They will ask one simple questions 'How do you know?, Where is the proof? And 'because God said so' will no longer be enough.
Your grandchildren may look at today's religions the way you look at Greek mythology today.
Not necessarily with hatred. Just with disbelief that millions of intelligent people once took every supernatural claim literally.
You think your religion is fighting another religion. It isn't. It is fighting education, science, unlimited information and the freedom to question everything.
And for the first time in history, claims that cannot survive questioning have nowhere left to hide.
Just binge watched Silo Season 3. Intially it start a bit slow relative to last 2 seasons as Juliet appears to have lost her edge but as past and present sync it brings back original thrills and especially last episode quite amazing cliffhanger. Cant wait to see season 4. #silo
I always keep on writing that all corporates are hand in Gloves with insurance companies , corporates will make hyperinflated bill and insurance companies clear all hyperinflated bill from this corporates.
A claim of ₹4.15 lakh for a finger fracture is completely exorbitant.
care sanctioned 3 lac as a primary approval and they will pass entire claim at the time of discharge.
I am sure that for smaller hospital and nursing home Care will not sanction 50k also for finger fracture.
Unregulated corporate hospital billing like this is directly driving up health insurance premiums for ordinary citizens. The government needs to wake up and enforce strict price caps on standard medical procedures.
The movie potrayed what happend in that era. Protraying what happned in that era in not glorificaton in a movie. Holocaust in schindler's list isnt glorification. Today we live in a society with different rules and regulation. She is telling others they miss the point. Ironic
You are missing the point Priyanka ji! The point is not about choice of the Jauhar committing women. They faced a tragedy and made a tough choice. The point is what are we choosing to glorify? That a woman’s chastity is more valuable than her life?? It’s a simple question. Does a rape survivor not deserve to live after rape???
Something extraordinary actually happened today.
Stuff so extraordinary, that even if it comes as a dream, you dismiss it as something that is impossibly improbable.
Thanks to your support and blessings, today I had the ultimate honor and privilege of having a conversation with our honorable Prime Minister on Mann Ki Baat about https://t.co/CIr1xkvilD
I still can't believe that he actually spoke to me, asked me about the website, its features and some questions on general history too. I am still in a daze.
For an amateur builder like me, i don't think there is a greater recognition or validation than this.
This conversation has given me enough motivation to take BharatRajya to the next level and make it the ideal history reference and visualization website for everyone.
Thank you @narendramodi ji, for encouraging people like us and inspiring us to achieve greater heights.
These is one conversation I will not forget in this lifetime. Or maybe even the next.
And rest assured sir, I won't let you down.
URGENT: Please help us locate my brother-in-law, V.S. Balasubramanyam (Bali), a US citizen of Indian origin.
Bali was travelling with the Isha Foundation S3 Kailash/Mansarovar group.
His last known phone location, confirmed to his family by Andhra Bhavan, New Delhi, was the Chinese Immigration Centre at Gyirong, Tibet, on the morning of August 26, when the devastating flash flood struck.
His family has had no contact with him since, and his current status is unknown.
If anyone has information about Bali or the S3 group at the Gyirong immigration centre, please DM me.
Please RT 🙏 and share this widely. @MEAIndia@USAndIndia@Sadhguru@IshaFoundation

Rajiv Ji came to power under sympathy wave. India was growing at hindu growth rate at d time. He have good apportunity to open the economy& end lisence raj system. Instead he continue old legacy which eventually led to payment crisis of 1991.
Rajiv Gandhi was a trained commercial pilot before becoming a politician and eventually India's Prime Minister. The irony is that today, someone who allegedly has no respect for the importance of education occupies the same position.
Education matters—especially at the highest seat of power.
@shubvibes Was it enough. No. Did it prevented bop crisis? No..
1991 economic reform came under imf condition..forced not voluarily like china..
Thats why india is 4 t econony and 14 t..
Gen Z culture on social media is not merely about the slangs and phrases they use. Concepts like “aura” and “authenticity” carry much deeper meaning, they are frameworks of reading people and judging behavior.
This photograph gives peak aura. Aura is an intangible quality that makes someone seem effortlessly cool and confident.
And it has to be authentic, it cannot be performed.
Young people are highly attuned to whether someone is performing or is real. The visual has to appear unvarnished.
That's why Modi's midnight videos don't work, and Ravi Kishan goes viral.
This is my story of how @BLK_Hospital, Karol Bagh cheated us through what I believe are serious billing malpractices.
My brother was admitted for just 3 days.
No surgery. Mainly medication + investigations.
Final gross bill: ₹1,70,809.
Admission date to Discharge: 11th August 26 to 13th August 26
Here’s what happened 🧵👇
By the time candidates reach NEET PG, everyone has already become an MBBS doctor.
They have studied the same 4.5-year MBBS curriculum, completed the same one-year compulsory internship, and earned the same medical degree.
If the argument is that everyone should first have equal educational opportunities, then after MBBS everyone has already had the same medical education.
So why should reservation continue at the postgraduate specialization level?
I'm asking this as a genuine policy question, not as a personal attack
