I launched the Bamboo program for the first time in 1998 as Environment Minister, with the support of Atal Ji. At that time, I toured all the states to popularize it. I am now glad to see its proliferation.
As the Chairman of the India Bamboo Forum, a platform for all possible stakeholders, I am very excited that scientists have developed a groundbreaking method to turn eco-friendly bamboo into biodegradable plastic with exceptional solvent and water resistance, as well as strong tensile strength (Journal of the American Chemical Society).
According to a 2022 Niti Aayog report, a staggering 97-99% of plastic still comes from fossil fuels, while only 1-3% is bio-based.
Big tech firms are switching to biodegradable packaging to reduce plastic waste. Many countries are seeking solutions for single-use plastics, and our governments are promoting bio-plastics, reusable packaging, and recycled materials.
It's time to scale up these efforts to tackle the plastic crisis effectively. Let's push for a sustainable future!

We seldom forget humans r part of #Biodiversity thus complex ecosystem created by nature is disturbed, eventually affects humans extremely adversely,we must protect what we can’t recreate, already lost huge terrestrial, now #marine is threatened, existential crisis.#BiodiversityDay
Theme #IDB2021“We're part of solution".is continuation “Our solutions are in nature".This serves as reminder that #biodiversity remains answer for #SustainableDevelopment Increased natural disasters, extinction of species, leading to threat to survival of humans #BiodiversityDay
