My brother coaches baseball. One of his co-coaches (42 yrs old, wife, 2 kids) has a large painting company in Atlanta. 15-20 employees. Dropped dead last week. Brain aneurysm. Healthy guy. No will and no guidance or direction for his company if something were to happen to him. Nothing.

There was no “Assistant manager”, no service manager, etc. He was heavily involved on all job bidding, all work, etc. Had some huge commercial contracts. Now no one knows what to do with the company. His wife is trying to quickly get involved and figure out the nuances of things but, she was a stay at home mom for most of their marriage.

If you own a small business, even if you’re young. It is VERY important to have a succession plan in place should something happen to you. A will/trust is not enough if you run your own biz. The amount of stress your family will go through trying to navigate a biz that rests solely on your shoulders, WILL BE daunting if you don’t have some type of plan in place should something tragic happen to you.

It's one thing to supress the monster as a trauma response. That was my issue–my coach once said "You treat this shit too much like a sport. It's a damn fight!"

It's another thing entirely when you gotta build that monster from scratch.

Some of us know where the dark place is and try to avoid it.

Others only know the light and must venture into dark black forest and learn to be comfortable.

@Cernovich As a kid, I'd make my own potato chips as much as I made "cinnamon toast". Cut potatoes into thin pieces, throw salt on them put them on cookie sheet into the oven at 400 degrees.

@CaptainCons Someone asked once, for their wife, how long does it take to play 9. I said about 2 hours but it takes about 4 to unwind afterwards. We tee'd off at 3pm and he was home by 11pm. The caveat, he got us thrown out of bar at 10:30pm.
