How bad is tanking in the NBA? So bad I told my son this week that I would be fine with him supporting the Knicks (unthinkable for us Bulls fans) rather than the Wizards.
But maybe the league should ditch the draft?

Great article... reckon a lot of work and time was put into this story by @justinaknope and @iboudway... ☕️
"Sharps realize that they may not be the smartest people in the room forever. In general, markets evolve, and smart traders find their advantage narrows as other sophisticated players chase the same opportunities... The big trading firms are already tilting the playing field."

The House settlement’s plan to review college athlete NIL deals with “associated entities” for fair market value has a number of issues.
Some logistical (athletes don’t/won’t disclose all deals) & some legal (antitrust law).
Thanks to @iboudway for reaching out for my thoughts.
“The only thing we know at this point is that the terrain has changed,” said Chris Grove, a gambling industry analyst at Eilers, “The rest of the story we’re all going to find out together.”

A blitz of Facebook ads by what poses as a pro-Harris group, but is secretly a front for a pro-Trump dark money group funded by Elon Musk to misrepresent Harris's views to swing-state voters, does not appear to violate Meta's ad transparency policies.
The NCAA and Power Four conferences are spending millions on lobbying efforts in DC.
Is Congressional help coming?

@NerdLaw_JockLaw It literally does not. Right now CFB is trying to negotiate the rules for paying players in a class action settlement. I don’t think that’s going to work. I think a CBA has a better chance. Have a good night.
@NerdLaw_JockLaw Your argument on the minor league idea is with Haupert. I’m skeptical that it would work for the reasons stated in the column. But whatever system they choose should be done by CBA.
@NerdLaw_JockLaw There are good estimates for where the economic rents generated by college football and men’s basketball players go in the cited NBER paper. Roughly 11 cents on the dollar go to other sports.
@NerdLaw_JockLaw For the record, I’m not saying that CFB should move to a minor league model. I’m saying it should get to collective bargaining as quickly as possible. What the structure looks like should be negotiated in a CBA. Personally I don’t think the minor league model would work.
