Property agents in Abuja are making life difficult for civil servants by hiking rents at will. With fixed salaries and no annual increments, many can't afford accommodation closer to town as rents keep rising every year. If not regulated, I may soon pack up & return to my village
Alhamdulillah! Alhamdulillah!Alhamdulillah! I went into @oxfordsbs with a bucket list of things I wanted to achieve. I have to say that it surpassed my expectations in every way possible. I can’t possibly put down all the amazing things this journey has brought to me in one post
Dear @DrJoeAbah, I would like to better understand the ethically and legally appropriate way to fill civil service positions in situations where vacancies are not part of a structured, large-scale recruitment exercise.
I am referring specifically to irregular or isolated vacancies, often one or a few positions at a time (say less than 36-37) , that arise unpredictably within public institutions, rather than scheduled, publicly advertised recruitment cycles involving many candidates.
In such contexts, what processes are considered best practice to ensure transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection in public service appointments?
I ask because I believe many young, law-abiding reform-minded Nigerians would benefit from clarity on how these less formalised recruitment scenarios should be properly handled.
Congratulations on your well deserved success, Gimba. Your journey is a testament to what hard work and dedication can achieve, and I truly admire the humility and grace you maintain through it all.
With the storms now behind me, I can finally let the cat out of the bag. A few years ago, I quietly began an LL.B programme at the Faculty of Law, Baze University. Last Friday, I wrote my final examination, closing a chapter I came close to abandoning twice.
Law stretched me in ways I had not imagined. It sharpened my understanding of power, rights, justice, evidence, governance, property, conflict, and the delicate architecture by which societies hold themselves together. It taught me to listen beyond noise, think beyond instinct, and argue with greater discipline.
I was blessed with an amazing cohort and a remarkable faculty of lecturers whose kindness, patience, and guidance steadied me through difficult seasons. I also owe a special debt of gratitude to my friend, @Meetmodis, whose encouragement first inspired my decision to study law. He went the extra mile to initiate my application for admission into the Faculty of Law, and that singular act became the beginning of this journey.
Above all, this journey belongs as much to my family as it does to me. It is no surprise that I dedicated my final-year project to my wife and children, who bore the quiet cost of my absences, late nights, and divided attention with grace and love.
PS: The Gen Zs dragged me into their signing-out ritual when I attempted to sneak away after the final paper, turning my fine shirt into a souvenir of this academic adventure.
Dear @Cambridge_Uni don't reject my application this time around, please. I have:
1. Ph.D (Environmental Law)
2. BL (Pass)
3. LL.M (Merit)
4. LL.B (second class upper)
5. Several training certificates (local & Internat.)
6. over 7 yrs experience. I just want to do 2nd masters
You are not the only one, I took part in all the proceses, got invited for induction, they later sent me an email to disregard the invitation. What pained me was the fact that I got admitted by University of Dundee to conduct research on blue economy.
I, Farouk Jiya Muhammad graduated with a first class in Biochemistry, applied for the PTDF In-Country Scholarship, got shortlisted for an interview, travelled all the way from Mokwa to Abuja to be interviewed.
I knew I did well during the interview as I even went beyond explaining my SOP, I had three publications as at then, and had a professional membership.
I even received a congratulatory message and was later changed to be a network glitch, ashe you and your cronies were the one behind it.
Nigeria my country!
