President William Ruto: To address concerns raised by returning travelers, including Kenyans who travel abroad and members of the diaspora, we have increased the duty-free allowance from Ksh 39,000 to Ksh 260,000 for gifts and personal effects that Kenyans can buy as they travel or as they come home from their jobs abroad

President HSM & Damuljadiid lack the discipline to operate within rules or sustain a rules-based political settlement. Greed, patronage, & short-term gain have displaced restraint. What is unfolding reflects how they chose to govern, & why the group is now unraveling from within.
@unicefsomalia@BMZ_Bund@KfW_int Incredible work, When children learn hygiene & nutrition at school, those lessons travel home — creating healthier families and communities. Head Teacher Mohamed Adan is proof that education-led change creates lasting impact. 🌱
As power in Mogadishu concentrates around HSM, his family, & Damuljadiid, the federal political settlement breaks down. Three federal states have severed ties with the FGS. Somalia is fragmenting as power narrows around HSM. The claim to national authority is no longer holding.
In Baidoa, today Met with the @UNmigration team to review the ongoing IDP biometric verification in Baidoa—13 of 17 catchments covered so far.
Over 284,000 individuals were registered across 13 catchment areas, improving the precision of population figures and reducing duplication. The exercise revealed a 30% adjustment in individual-level data, demonstrating enhanced accuracy and accountability in registration processes.
This initiative jointly implemented by the International Organization for Migration @iom_somalia, @Acted, and the Danish Refugee Council @DRCSomalia through the #BRaVE system.
We discussed steps we need to take to complete the remaining catchments in order to obtain complete picture of Baidoa IDPs.
We commend @CCCMCluster biometrics registration and assure to advocate with @IOM to raise resources needed to complete Biometric IDP registration throughout South West State of Somalia.
As the humanitarian situation in the State worsens, biometric data will play a vital role in ensuring efficient and effective response—helping prevent duplication and misuse of resources.

Situation Update:
Since the start of the year, Food Security and Nutrition Assessment Unit (FSNAU) IPC Phase classification reports show a steady rise in the number of people facing Phase 4 food insecurity — the emergency level — across the South West State:
•Jan–Mar: 72,150
•Apr–Jun: 139,970
•Jul–Sep: 150,540
•Oct–Dec: 227,340
The chart clearly shows this worsening trend.
Nutrition crisis deepens in South West State: FSNAU projects more than 134,000 children under 5 will suffer from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) between Aug 2025–July 2026 which is 32% of Somalia’s total caseload.
Rising food insecurity and malnutrition in South West State signal a looming humanitarian crisis.
Without urgent action, Emergency-level cases will continue to climb through late 2025 and into early 2026 and potentially could escalate into Phase 5 (catastrophe) by early 2026.
The Ministry urgently call upon Somalia’s international partners, donors, and humanitarian organizations to scale up life-saving food and nutrition interventions.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of hosting @iom_somalia at Ajmal Technical Training Institute in Baidoa, where we are currently delivering youth vocational training under READO programs.
The IOM team witnessed firsthand the impact of the ongoing skills development—ranging from tailoring and carpentry to digital literacy and entrepreneurship training. These sessions are equipping vulnerable youth in Baidoa with practical tools for self-reliance and economic resilience.
We appreciate IOM Somalia’s interest and engagement. Their visit reinforces the importance of partnerships in empowering communities and shaping brighter futures for Somali youth.
