False - High FODMAP foods should be avoided in the elimination phase of the low FODMAP diet for a SHORT period of time.
The low FODMAP diet should be used as a diagnostic tool. The initial phase, which entails eliminating all high FODMAP foods, should only be followed for a short period to gauge symptom improvement rather than indefinitely.
Why? Because adhering to the diet indefinitely may lead to nutritional deficiencies. You'd miss out on the probiotics found in many of these restricted foods, and it can be socially restrictive, limiting your enjoyment of eating out, sharing meals with family, and celebrating special occasions! 🎉
That's why it's crucial to work with a FODMAP-trained dietitian who can guide you through the reintroduction phase, systematically reintroducing these foods to identify individual triggers.
❗Not all high FODMAP foods will necessarily trigger symptoms in every person with IBS.❗
