Interesting that the 6-year-old in this conversation makes more substantive points than the MP.
Jess Brown-Fuller says she wants to ban YouTube so she can ‘keep all of the children safe online’ but can't actually explain how this will be achieved or why YouTube is unsafe.
"Stare at a wall" is, unfortunately, likely to prove accurate because you just know they're not going to invest in creating more third spaces where children can actually go when they're not online.
@LahavHarkov@yashar she's saying there are children who wouldn't know how to brush their teeth manually without one, she's not saying that there's an issue with electric toothbrushes
Sometimes I feel like I’m going crazy because the UK government is focused on every other issue except the fact PEOPLE CAN’T AFFORD TO FILL THEIR FRIDGE???
@dr_musgrave it's not about keeping children on social media, but about having the choice of access and letting parents manage it rather than the government. this will also affect everyone in some way as we'll have to prove we're above the restricted age which is very tedious
I think some people have forgotten just how tough it can be when you don’t fit in at school. Kids can find a new sense of community online and it can help them feel less isolated. I feel for and worry for those kids with this new social media ban
People telling kids to get a hobby, to make up for losing access to Youtube.
Youtube is how a lot of people develop and learn about their hobby.
This is just such a disastrous idea from Keir Starmer.
Banning YouTube for teenagers is obviously nuts. Clearly no one is using TikTok for educational purposes but YouTube is for everything! Why the hell would you try to stop 14 year olds accessing guitar tutorials? History documentaries? News clips?
no jobs, rising retirement age, weak social safety nets if you aren’t a pensioner, and now they can’t even tweet about it lmao. what does this country actually offer to young people?
