Germany’s foreign intelligence agency, the BND, is recruiting gamers at Gamescom 2026.

The agency will be looking for people with skills in cybersecurity and hacking, with some candidates taking part in a five-step challenge to test their abilities.

The BND has also created its own game, BND Legends: Operation Blackbox, where players take on a spy-style mission involving stealth and hacking.

The agency says gamers can have useful skills for intelligence work and problem-solving

I remember the days when you’d connect something to your PC – and it wasn’t IoT – and you could just unplug the cable and it was off. These days, you buy something and you have to log in via the app, grant permissions for location, the internet, precise location, audio, the camera, sensors and everything else your mobile phone can offer in terms of files. I miss the good old days when there weren’t all these programmes and devices that rely on the cloud.

Among the potential warning signs described were children displaying “traditional gender roles,” including girls wearing dresses and braids while boys are encouraged to participate in physically demanding activities.
