WTF timeline are we on. Someone called me the MAGA whisperer and I’ll gladly take the title. Left, right, D or R we all want the same things. We’re being divided on purpose by the Epstein Elite Oligarch class because as long as we’re at each other’s throats, they get fat and rich off of our misery. The second we figure out we agree on more than we disagree, they’re done. Love your neighbor. Be yourself. Radical honesty. No fucks given, no fucks taken. Everything else is just noise. (But still fuck Jake “Brick Tamland” Tapper on any time line)
@FangYi11101 You can trace all of this nonsense back to USNWR ranking algos which place a premium on admitted students' GPA.
It forces colleges to grade inflate vs a curve, lest they fuck over their own students from a career in biglaw, medicine, and the usual jobs from a top MBA.
@treatyoma Imagine founding a white nationalist party with your bff only to have him sleep with both your daughter and your wife, then choke you out when you confront him.
Of course it’s because of *checks notes* Indian-American cancer researchers! Why would you do this to him?
@devahaz ❌ No organic options
❌ No living wage labor disclaimers
❌ Ableist marketing “Hand tossed”
❌ Major ownership by Vanguard, aka Private (in)Equity
You seriously want me to eat this slop? Ok, boomer. 🙄
@uncledoomer@simonsarris@BjorkBrodern A tall Starbucks drip coffee is $2.65 and with the app you can get free refills if you’re working out of the store. $1 at McD via the app.
An 8-inch JJ sub is $10-12, with a promotion $8.99.
Chili’s 3-for-me deal, which you can get takeout, is $10.99
It’s a skill issue.
@devahaz All the comments expressing surprise is so funny.
It’s just w/e protein on sale + carbs. Or if you’re lazy, buy $5 Costco roti chicken + invest in a rice cooker.
Hell even top ramen with an egg, veggies, and some frozen shrimp thrown in is tasty, healthy-ish, and sub $5.
@BosCybertruck@KenseiAbbot@Jake_99123@oecolamp It’s just a trade-off. For most people, the cost-savings of shopping+cooking, especially at the terminal compounded value is worth more than whatever value they assign at present.
This is not exactly rocket science nor a novel concept. It’s how I went from poor to rich.
@BosCybertruck@KenseiAbbot@Jake_99123@oecolamp Most people’s time is indeed worth zero, especially downtime/weekends.
Grocery shopping can also be fun and treated as an investment: towards one’s health, savings (which can compound), etc.
Ultimately one must live within their means, learn how, or suffer. That’s just life.
Honestly, Trump’s party purge makes it so much easier to vote in November. In the past I felt like it was my civic duty to review every candidate regardless of party. Now I can safely assume that any GOP candidate is Trumpy as hell and just vote straight against that.
Black cabs are last vestige of UK glory. They’re awesome. Beautiful cars, drivers speak perfect English and have total knowledge of the city. They’re ambassadors and tour guides—priceless contribution to daily life. The English historically the only culture to put extreme great pride in servile jobs like butler, chauffeur, groundskeeper, driver etc. One of the main reasons they dominated the globe is because they translated a surplus of labor from Industrial Revolution into the cultural benefit of fixation on manners and service. I do not understand people who say black cab “human capital” should be better used on what, spreadsheets? Insane
Moreover, these sorts of IRL culture jobs—black cab tour type driver, private school teacher, maître d’, public parks gardener, experiential organizer, and clergy—have big future. Smart upper middle class types will no longer send kids to be lawyers or accountants or marketers because those jobs will be first eliminated by ai. Much like how Industrial Revolution gave birth to English pride in service, so will AI drive upswing in live culture professions. Supply will drive demand.
@buccocapital Just euphoric bubble things, like risk assets in '21, crypto in '16, and .com in '99.
These posts + the sentiments they describe were common in those periods too. Old folks will tell you as much.
Anytime you see “can’t retire on $10mm” posts, it's a warning to bid with caution.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... endless drawers of gluten-free organic cookies, mini-fridges overflowing with cans of probiotic seltzers. I watched carefree millennials play ping pong at 11am in MPK 20. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
during my last year at meta there were probably 4-5 layoffs, but this one on 5/20 is huuuge
my friends still there are either just waiting hoping to get laid off or extremely anxious because the job is their lifeline
i remember the very first big layoff the night before was almost like doomsday, people were stuffing their bags with free snacks and drinks and chargers
very weird time to be in big tech
