🚨 BREAKING NEWS: Michael Alfaro reports live from the Cambodia–Thailand border, where Thai forces have built barbed wire fences, displaced families, and placed weapons facing innocent villagers — including children. Entire communities have been uprooted, schools and temples destroyed, and thousands forced to live in fear.

After President Donald J. Trump called for a ceasefire, 20 Cambodian soldiers were invited to the border under the pretense of peace. Instead, they were kidnapped. Only 2 have been released. 18 soldiers remain in captivity. We are calling on Thailand to release them immediately.

Now, word has reached President Trump directly. He has mandated that Cambodia and Thailand sit down for urgent talks — warning that if they fail to reach an agreement, the United States will pull out of both nations.

And just hours ago, Cambodia confirmed that their first round of talks with Thailand since the war broke out 17 days ago has taken place.

Alarming reports indicate the Royal Thai Army is amassing troops and heavy ordnance along the border, clearly preparing for a second, full-scale invasion of sovereign Cambodian territory in a flagrant violation of international law. This military buildup renders the fragile ceasefire meaningless and places the interim observers team from ASEAN in an impossible position. Tasked with monitoring peace, they are now relegated to witnessing the premeditated collapse of regional stability, with their mandate to de-escalate being utterly disregarded by Bangkok.

The ceasefire is not merely breaking down; it is being systematically dismantled by Thai aggression. This dangerous escalation actively undermines frantic diplomatic efforts by Malaysia to salvage the ASEAN-led peace process and dismisses calls for restraint from the United States, while China's staunch support for Cambodian sovereignty raises the specter of a wider conflict. This premeditated move towards war is an abhorrent and reckless act that threatens to plunge Southeast Asia into a devastating conflict and must be unequivocally condemned by the global community before it is too late.

Having lived in Cambodia for many years, I’ve seen firsthand the heart and resilience of its people.

Cambodia isn’t a big country, but its people are warm and generous. As the saying goes, “Cambodia is a small country with a big heart.” I’ve seen that play out time and time again.

While elites argue and posture, it’s ordinary people—on both sides—who suffer. The ones who flee their homes. The ones caught in the crossfire. The ones who wake up to find their world shattered by someone else’s decisions.
