In the latest UTME result released by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Daniella Jesudunsin Owoeye became the candidate with the highest score (372/400) in 2026. Previous records show that Chinedu Christian Okeke got 374 in 2025 while three candidates (Joseph Oluwasijibomi Olowu, David Alayande and Joel Ehijele Orukpe) got 367 in 2024.

In April 2026, the Wike-led faction of the PDP pegged its presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at N51m and N21m for the governorship position ahead of the party primaries. Few weeks later, the Turaki-led faction backed by Seyi Makinde, pegged its presidential and governorship forms at N100m and N50m respectively

On May 2, 2026, the Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed dumped the PDP for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) leaving behind Seyi Makinde as the last man standing in the PDP. As it stands, APC has 31 states while PDP, Accord Party, Labour Party, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and APM control one state each.
