Today, @RwandaNGOForum joins the world in launching the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, beginning with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This year marks 77 years since the United Nations first declared 25 November a global stand against violence, yet women and girls worldwide, including here in Rwanda, still face abuse, discrimination, and systemic injustice. This moment reminds us that progress is possible, but only if we refuse to normalize violence and intentionally uplift the voices of survivors and advocates.

Violence against women and girls is not inevitable, it is preventable. Ending GBV requires solidarity across communities, institutions, and generations. It calls on us to challenge harmful norms, support survivors with dignity and compassion, strengthen accountability at every level, and champion policies that protect the rights and safety of all women and girls. Every voice matters. Every shared message matters. Every act of courage whether big or small, chips away at the silence that allows violence to continue.

As we enter these 16 days, let us raise our voices louder than ever, break the silence that has shielded abuse for too long, and take meaningful action in our homes, workplaces, schools, and communities. The future we want, a world free from GBV, begins with each of us. Together, we can end violence in all its forms.
Together, we can ensure that dignity, equality and safety become everyday realities for every woman and girl.
