Salary negotiation is not rude.
What is rude is a company that budgeted $120K for a role and offered you $85K to see if you would take it.
They are not being generous. They are testing your boundaries.
Negotiate. The worst they can say is no. And if they rescind the offer for asking, you dodged a bullet.
Dangote is at least 20x richer.
Could be up to 40x
The thing about wealth is, you can do a lot with a net worth of $1 billion.
And if you are worth that, you are only worth 3% of Dangote. The wealth of at least 30 more people valued like you need to be combined to have any chance of equalling Dangote.
Finally, I think we need to understand business more. The "doings" of a business is different from the "doings" of the business promoter. Businesses have loans, businesses have other shareholders, businesses have other creditors. Calculating a business' revenue or even asset and attributing it to the principal promoter is faulty. We mostly only know the asset of a businessman, we do not know the liability. Networth is asset minus liability.
Skill makes you money.
Reputation makes you rich.
One is what you can do. The other is who trusts you to do it, and trust compounds far faster than talent ever will.
Yoruba wisdom: Bi omode ba subu, a wo iwaju; bi agba ba subu, a wo eyin.
When a child falls, he looks ahead. When an elder falls, he looks back.
The young blame the obstacle in front of them. The experienced study the mistake behind them. Same fall. The one who checks behind is the one who stops repeating it.
My first daughter works for me, a lot.
I have enjoyed that time we spend together. Her confidence has also increased 10X in the last two years as she sees how the world really works.
I pay her a fair wage, and she likes to tell her friends that she works for her money (lol) anytime she is spending it...which is true.
I foresaw all of this.
She couldn't have worked for me at Shell...it would be exposing "company materials" to "unauthorized" access 🙄
Her other younger siblings too are trying. One of them did a data analysis of a section of my transactions last year that wowed me.
All in all, I have been a more present father since I regained control of my day-to-day.
Just adding to the point you made here.
