It’s very wrong to teach Scriptures half baked!

Paying bride price for non-virgins is against Scriptural teachings and African tradition. Scripturally, bride price was only set and paid for virgins. Please see Exodus 22:17.

In fact, Scripturally, if you paid bride price for a woman and she turns out not to be a virgin, you can annul the marriage, and the so-called bride will return to her parents. Please see Deuteronomy 22:20-21.

The wearing of a white dress by European brides is not Scriptural. It is European culture. But even that culture is meant to denote that the bride is a chaste virgin. And in Africa, amongst the Yoruba omoluabi Lukumi people, a marriage to a new bride is traditionally meant to be consummated on a white cloth, and the fabric must be stained red after the consummation, or there is a problem.

This Yoruba culture is the same as what Scripture provides in Deuteronomy 22:17. And the reason there are hundreds of similarities between Black African culture and the Tanakh is because Moses himseif was married to a Black African woman, who taught him about God and her culture. Please see Numbers 12:1, Exodus 4:25 and Exodus 18:24.

And priests were forbidden from marrying any woman that is not a virgin. Please see Leviticus 21:13.

You will notice that David married Michal after paying her bride price-2 Samuel 3:14. But when he married Abigail, he did not pay a bride price-1 Samuel 25:40-41. This was because Michal was believed to be a virgin, while Abigail was a widow.

So, Scripturally, if you want to marry any girl who is not a virgin, you don't need a ceremony or bride price. You simply ask her hand in marriage. If she says yes, then she enters your house and becomes your wife.

Like I said before, God made marriage simple. Man, complicated it!
