ఈ సుదీర్ఘ ప్రయాణంలో నన్ను నమ్మి అవకాశాలు ఇచ్చిన ప్రతి నిర్మాతకు, నాలోని నటుడిని కొత్త కొత్త కోణాల్లో ఆవిష్కరించిన ప్రతి దర్శకుడికి, నా ప్రతి సినిమా వెనుక అహర్నిశలు శ్రమించిన నటీనటులకు, సాంకేతిక నిపుణులకు, ప్రతి ఒక్కరికీ నా హృదయపూర్వక కృతజ్ఞతలు. మీ అందరి సహకారమే నన్ను ఈరోజు ఈ స్థాయిలో నిలబెట్టింది.

When The Second Orbit first started taking shape, my editor began suggesting names of people who could share a few words for the cover.

I had recently met Sachin Tendulkar at an event. His name came to mind—and, honestly, after that, I didn’t think of anyone else.

He had been an inspiration to an entire country, me included. The idea of him reading my book and saying a few words about it felt like one of those ideas that was perhaps a little too good to actually happen.

But, to my delight, he agreed. Instantly. A reflection of the graciousness that has always accompanied the greatness.

And then came another special moment: Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla meeting Group Captain (Hon.) Sachin Tendulkar and presenting him with The Second Orbit.

For a little boy who grew up watching Sachin bat, it was quite a moment. Some dreams take a while to find their way back to you.

Human ingenuity truly has no limits.

Floating aboard the ISS, weightless, watching a bolt or a stray droplet of water hang in the air rather than fall, one thought kept finding its way back to me: what are the odds of surviving, for years on end, in a place where life was never meant to exist? No air, no gravity, cold enough and hostile enough that nothing should endure here — and yet human beings had built a home that did. Every time that thought returned, it brought with it a quiet pride. Not pride in myself, but in being part of a species that had looked at the impossible and simply decided to solve it, one equation and one weld at a time.

Then there were the hours spent looking back at Earth. From up there it seemed enormous — a bright, breathing blue marble, the only visible sign of life in every direction I turned. And it was massive, at our scale. But a second thought followed close behind the first, and once it arrived, it didn't let go: Earth is not the biggest planet in our solar system. Our solar system is not the biggest in our galaxy. Our galaxy is not the biggest in its cluster. And you can keep going outward, layer after layer, all the way to the edge of what we can even observe — and every single one of those layers is in motion, hurtling through space at speeds the human mind can calculate but never quite feel. Somewhere in that vastness was a planet the size of a full stop, holding everyone I had ever known.

Against a backdrop like that, I found myself doing the arithmetic on my own life. One person, sent to represent India in space, drawn from a population of 1.4 billion. I have spent a career around odds and probabilities, and I could not make that one feel anything less than extraordinary.

It is in moments like these — small, weightless, and very far from home — that you cannot help but ask why. Why this vantage point, why this chance, why me. I asked it too, more than once. And I will be honest: I did not always get a clear answer back. What I got instead was quieter than an answer — a steady reassurance, underneath all the noise of the mission and the numbers, that someone was watching over all of it.
Faith is what holds you together when nothing else can. Not instead of the engineering, the training, the years of preparation — but alongside them, filling the space those things were never meant to fill.

This video is a small reflection of that faith.
