The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed profound sadness over the death of prominent Niger State political figure, community leader and philanthropist, Ibrahim Wali, the Garkuwan Kontagora.

The Minister describes the late Wali as a close associate, trusted friend and distinguished son of Niger State whose life was marked by generosity, loyalty and an abiding commitment to the progress of his people.

Idris says the late Garkuwan Kontagora distinguished himself through years of service to his community, using his influence and resources to support people and advance causes that improved lives,as Garkuwan Kontagora, he carried his traditional responsibility with dignity and devotion.

The Minister said he will personally missed his friendship, his counsel, his warmth and his remarkable ability to build bridges across different segments of society.

Mohammed Idris extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora and the entire Kontagoraa Emirate, as well as the government and people of Niger State.

We have quite a number of knowledgeable scholars on this app for every display of ignorance by a Muslim to be met with the most vicious invective or threats. Understandably, there are those whose arrogance manifests in a refusal to learn, but there are also subjects that demand humility from both sides.

To excommunicate a fellow Muslim who either does not know of, or disputes the existence of, a particular Hadith, and to do so in such a dehumanising tone and fashion, helps no one. Not the person being corrected. Not the self-styled traducer. And certainly not the Deen itself.

Sheikh Pantami, for instance, has made himself largely available to answer questions, as have many other scholars. Our unity would be better served by restoring decorum to our discourse on Islam, rather than surrendering to the animalistic impulse to abuse and threaten those with whom we disagree.

Otherwise, what exactly sets such conduct apart from the early impulses of practising violent extremists, whose journey towards violence often began with the same language of excommunication, dehumanisation and threats?

As an academic or researcher, you need only one PhD. If you want to make a meaningful impact, you should go deeper into the field you specialize in. Pursuing multiple PhDs in different fields may lead you to lose focus.
