@MichaelLCrick I gave up following @BBCNews at the time of the Brexit vote when it demonstrated it didn’t wish to challenge Farage & the far right zealots. It should be a standard bearer for truth & unbiased opinion, but instead it’s scared of its own shaddow & is now waving a white flag. RIP.
@ahistoryinart Hi Richard - I haven’t commented for months, but this caught my eye as I saw the Sorolla exhibition in Valencia today, another master of light. Just wanted to say the pictures you have posted this year have been exceptional. My fav by far is the boats at Cookham by Spencer.
@arusbridger The upshot is that @BBCNews cannot be trusted because of editorial bias and incompetent governance, which is the conclusion I came to in 2016 following its coverage of the Brexit referendum.
@ahistoryinart Richard - as you are from Northampton, did you ever visit 78 Derngate. He was commissioned by the model maker W.J Bassett-Lowke in 1916 to modernise the house. CRM also worked on Bassett-Lowkes summer bungalow at Roade. https://t.co/DKELkOSwWz
@ahistoryinart Caroline is depicted in the mural at Plas Newydd, possibly his finest work. Apparently, The Times received more letters about his death than anyone else killed in WWll. Amazing talent.
@ahistoryinart A true “son of Cornwall” and one of my favourite artists. That picture was the cover for the Penlee House catalogue raisonné for last year’s Harold Harvey exhibition, which was an absolute gem.
@ahistoryinart Totally agree - unbelievably talented draughtsman, yet after WWII was unable to get a teaching job at any of the major London art schools, ostracised by the Establishment for his political views. Ended up working part time in a bakery to supplement his teaching income. A tragedy.
@ahistoryinart Amazing that the secret is still unknown - how is that possible Richard? Some say he used masking, others a transfer technique. Whoever purchased the picture through Bonhams last year got a bargain. Stunning picture - the basket of linen is exceptional.
@ahistoryinart Can’t think of a better way to finish the year than with Sir William Orpen, one of my favourite artists. Thank you Richard for all your time and effort posting an amazing variety of works. Best wishes for 2025.
@ahistoryinart Really interesting picture for technique - pink shadows. Yet in 1887 he had abandoned impressionism and embraced cloisonnism with his most famous picture Avenue de Clichy, the inspiration for van Gogh’s The Café Terrace in Arles. Great choice Richard.
@arthistorynews Must be 20 yrs since I last watched Smiley’s People. They don’t make tv drama like this anymore. Too slow paced. Just watched the first two episodes. It’s still utterly brilliant.
